I'm recently starting a Skaven army and its vanilla but Eshin-oriented and I was wondering what the general consenus is on Night Runners/Gutter Runners, what for the unit size, what weapons to give em, stuff like that. I also was wondering what yall give your clanrats, i currently have two units, one with shields and combat weapon and one with shields and spears thanks!

HW + Shield on everything. Those troops will win combat by not dying. They don't need token S3 attacks.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

Night Runners can't be equipped with shields, and I do have the Clanrats with shields, but should i give the second unit of Clanrats spears or continue HW? So i guess my main question now is Night Runners? Unit size? Additional hand weapon? throwing stars? slings? ive heard all of them and i dont really know what to go with

I think that Big Chris was referring to Clanrats being only armed with hand weapons & shields (cheaper & better save). But, for Night runners i usually run units of 10 with 2 hand weapons which works with some success, or rather as much as 10 Skaven can. For Gutter Runners I like to tool them up all the way poisoned hand weapons & stars. But, the general unwritten rule of Skaven is that they have the potential to win big with great success or loss big terribly. So, it's mainly a matter of how much of a risk are you willing to take by sinking points into skirmishers.

Poisoned Hand Weapons...i used them with only that (keeps them reasonably cheap) and can annoy the opponent. I often use one tunneler team (just nice against artillery) and one ordinary gutter team. That way you can somewhat control the possibilities of tunnelers missfiring.

In my army I invested in only one unit of 10 Gutter Runners with one being a black skaven, for upgrades I gave them poisoned HW's and poisoned Throwing Stars great for harassing small enemy units.
