Had a game last night with my tau against a mates necron army.
My army was as follows:

Game was a straight out firefight to the death, no mission this time.
We played almost Omega level. By almost I mean we did roll omega I just forgot crisis suits start in reserve so I accidently deployed them, by the time we noticed this was wrong we decided to just continue as it was.

Was a casual game so we didnt bother rolling for sides as both had already placed their armies on the table on either side so we kept the sides.
Well game starts with me deploying my crisis suits behind the only cover I can find (the large pillar thing with 2 stories), my shasel over 6" inside area terrain and my Shas'o bravely out front behind what little cover he can find. kroot infiltrate out of
los near the center, on a lower level than the necs.
My opponent deploys the rest of his army bar the monoliths that start in reserve on the center to right flank (the first pics are after turn 1 moves).
We roll for first turn and necrons win and elect to take it.
Veil lord takes his squad of 10 immortals and veils inbetween my shas'o and the 2 crisis suits, he wants to shoot at the crisis suits. he scatters 10" directly towards my shas'o (which then fires a hail of
CIB and plasma shots into the sky felling 6 immortals before the unit can even land!)
The remaining 4 immortals and the lord fire on the shas'o causing 3 wounds (my saves suck) and I even fail all 3 feel no pain rolls! The only other thing that can get
los to the lord (pic 28) are 3 immortals (pic29) which manage to cause 2 wounds of which I save 1 with feel no pain! 1/5 for
fnp, not great! And down goes my Shas'o, I was hoping it would survive to do some necron assualting with 4 wounds, 3+ save and
fnp I thought it would last some but apparantly not.
The scarabs boosted near the o as seen in the pics.
Tau turn 1:
Well I fire my 2 crisis suits at the immortals turning 2 over.
My kroot assualt the scarabs and kill 4 bases while losing 2 of their own, scarabs are fearless.
Necron turn 2: Warrior unit assualts the kroot, combined with the scarabs they kill the kroot.
Monolith deepstrikes in near my army and gauss fluxs everyone, drops a whip that scatters off harmlessly, immortals (unit with veil lord) fire on my crisis suits but I save the wounds with my 3+.
Scarabs didnt boost this turn, they moved the normal 12" to get near the 10 kroot in combat with the warriors and other scarabs!
Tau turn 2:
I roll for reserves and get 2 railheads, 2 piranhas, 2 fish, 1 stealth team
I create a wall to stop the 2 scarab units from assualting the next turn. (pic 36 is of turn 3)
I pour all my fire on the scarabs destroying the smaller unit and killing 1 from the other, rails try to shoot the lith and cause 1 penetrate which is a roll of 2 so weapon destroyed....yeai!
Necron turn 3:
Scarabs assualt my devilfish, lith causes a few wounds here and there with the particle whip causing a
ld test on my stealths and
FWs but I pass both.
20 warriors are still out of range, (walking each turn)
the 10 immortals have only the devilfish in range and they stunn it.
Tau turn 3: I get the pirnaha and 3 stealth team with drones from reserve.
I fire everything bar the 2 railguns at the scarabs and destroy them (
FWs are out of fishes), lith takes another penetrate 2, 2 weapons destroyed now! (4-5 to go?)
Necron turn 4: 2nd lith comes in and I am now being whipped and arced from all over (pic 39) still my wall is holding and my opponent is out of fast units (granted he still has 2 telports and a veil!)
Lord with immortals veils into the pillar building to fire on my hammerhead stunnign it.
warriors walk forward still out of range, immortals fire on a fish againthis time destroying 1. monoliths fire on everything! (both liths fire on ALL units) he has me cornered but I felt this was fine as the immortal unit of 10 was still doing very little and the 20 warriors where out of range. Liths cause
ld tests on most of my units!
Shas'
el is reduced to 1 wound, I lose a shield drone on my crisis unit, 2-3
FWs from each unit are killed with arcs, whip drops, scatters off a devilfish and hits the 9
FWs sitting behind it killing 7.
everyone passes their tests!!!!
2nd whip scatters onto a piranhas killing it!
Tau turn 4:
I get my last hammerhead and put 2 rails into a lith immobilising it! hoorah!
Rest of my army fires on the immortals and lord killing the unit, however lord has orb so gets up with 1 wound the next turn.
Necron turn 5: 1 unit of warriors elects not to move and gets to fire, destroys me 2nd fish.
lord that got up assualts crisis suits but is defeated in
CC as it manages only 1 wound wchih I save wiht shield drone, 2 crisis suits then gang up on the lord and kick its arse!
it does not get up after such a scuffle no sir!
Liths open up on my army yet again, this time destroying a railhead with a whip and a stealth team with the other one. Causing all manor of wounds on the rest of my army with the flux arc. All up I lose a hammer, devilfish, 2 piranhas, stealth team this turn, mostely to the 2 liths!
Tau turn 5:
My 2 rails decide to ignore the immo lith as the portal is blocked I feel it is less of a threat (had my
el standing at the gate!) 2 rail shots later the 2nd lith is also immobilized! I pour the rest of my fire on the unit of 8 immortals, 2 crisis, 1
el, some 8
FWs that I have left and a stealth team, could not fire the bursts of my hammers as the immo liths blocked
los!
Still I manage to take down the 8 immortals so none will be getting up.
Stick a drone infront of the 2nd immo lith so no portaling.
Necron turn 6: He is down to lord, 20 warriors and 2 immo liths.
Warriors hardly have
los to anything, they do rapid fire 5
FWs to death, liths do their job as usual killing my last piranha, killing the drones of my last stealth team making the stealths run off the table (do they roll
3d6 fallback?), they also kill all the random drones running around and the last 2
FWs from the first fish that went down that where just trying to get away. Shas'
el dies to gaus flux, though the monolith does almost shoot itself with the whip! rolled a 7" scatter towards itself but was 1" shoft of having the hole on the lith!
Tau turn 6: I am left with a stunned hammerhead, working railhead, 2 crisis suits (1 on 1 wound)
That is it, 4 models!
I devise a CUNNING plan to take the win, he is down to 22 necrons, 10 is his phase out so all I need is to kill 12, so I fire my railheads bursts at the unit with the lord and down 2! Yess that is all I need.
Now all I need to do is kill the other unit of 10 warriors with my 2 crisis and 1 railhead shot.
I rail the blast template on the lord unit hitting hte lord and 5 warriors downing another 2.
faze out is but 8 warriors away!
my crisis suits fire their plasma/missile at rapid fire range at the warriors killing 1 grr (faze out is 7 warriors away)
Now my ultimate plan is to assualt the warriors, lose assualt, then use the failsafe detonator to blow up the last crisis suit thus killing 7 warriors in the explosing (S8
ap- explosion)
IT COULD HAPPEN!!!!
Well I assualt, kill 1, lose nothing....win combat.....necrons lose so take
ld test and ...................PASS........NOOOOOOOOOOOO ;(

Tau 480pts So it is just a loss of 305pts.
I knew tau vs necs was a hard matchup, basically his 2 liths took out my army!
I didnt let the warriors shoot much at all and his 2nd immortal unit was rather innefective also as he did not veil them up soon enough. (think he actually did that on turn 5 though)
I figured 3 rails would take out a lith or 2 eventually, I did get 5 penetrating hits but I just could not destroy them!
Perhaps I should have run instead of hiding in the corner but I really did think I could take out atleast 1 of the liths.
My opponent really came at me with 1 unit at a time, had he come with everything by using the portals more I would have been in trouble, he would have made a hole in my skimmer wall and assualted through it.
Phase out was very near, had I had Ions instead of rails I would not have wasted time trying to take out the liths and I would have phased him out alot easier, not to mention the ion is the best weapon against the likes of immortals or destroyers....
Well was a fun game against a tough list.....hope the report was educational.
Was only my 7th game with my tau so I am sure I made alot of mistakes but I'll get there. Atleast I got to play against an army that wasnt chaos marines for a change. (end rambling)
