Yeah.... Hi

Anyway,  In my new army that i'm creating based basically on a cannon battalion (2-3 cannons) backed up by solid blocks of infantry, handgunners and some hard hitting knights. For my elector count (/grand master) who will be accompanying the inner circle knights (not white wolves) what mundane or magical items do you think he should have?

Here, you can actually justify taking a Runefang, as you can easily get the same 1+ save the Knights with mundane armor.

However, I persoanlly don't bother with it. I equip my Count to make him as surviveable as possible; to that end, I go with the Holy Relic (4+ Ward Save) and the Sword of Sigismund (+1S, First Strike). However, as he's part of a unit of Knights, the First Strike ability may not be as useful, since you should be breaking enemies on the charge. Use a weapon that will deliver serious power, such as the Sword of Power.

As I said, it's doable, because you get that nice 1+ save. However, in the event that you face off against enemy characters, you may find yourself wishing for a ward save. Elector Counts are small fry among the fighty-type Lords out there.

Well, there goes the Runefang argument.

Don't know... I never use one. I prefer having my general with the troops to spread around his leadership, and I like my Knights to have the ability to flee when faced with taking a charge I don't like.

I agree, that is my usual plan with my Empire.  Although when I get the crazy hair to field a grand master I usually equip him with the sword of power, holy relic, and the enchanted shield.  That way he hits with str6 has a 4+ ward and a 0+armor save.  Other options include dawn armor, white cloak, and the sword of might or striking.

He's so cool though. Anyway i feel against my normal opponents (special character heavy chaos and dark elves) a grand master would be more appropriate. Criticism is encouraged though. Any other ideas?

To win against chaos I usually use cannons and static CR to win.  Against dark elves I usually use cannons and static CR.......I think I am seeing a patern here.  I usually use my knights on a flank so I don't have that much exp. with using them as the core of my army.  Keep this in mind when tooling up a grand master, a bare bones aspiring champ with a great weapon will own him.  Your characters can't stand up to the best chaos has to offer, in fact they have a little trouble with the worst.  Use your strengths, tooled up characters are not one of them. Having said that there is nothing I like to see more in a game of warhammer than a glorious charge into a superior enemy, breaking them and running the cowards down like the dogs they are.

An Aspiring Champion on foot lets say, with heavy armour and great weapon and other random upgrades. Grand Master charges. Four attacks at +2 strength (so 6) 3s to hit, 2/3s to wound, no armour save, maybe a ward save. Dead

As he's got a 8-12 inner circle knights with a war banner at his back they would smash them apart. Correct?

Anyway i am playing to Empire's strengths. 2 Cannons, a mortar and plenty of missile troops are in my army list. I just want a cool, good and sold character at the front. Also i'm not using the knights as the core of my army. Several good solid blocks of infantry acompanied by a captain is the core. The grand master and the inner circle knights are to smash through the opponents flank or weak spot and therefor prevent march moves, do rear charges and so forth.

-Colonel

P.S. Whats CR?

CR = Combat Resolution, like the bonuses from banners and ranks.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

Ok, aspiring champ on foot vs grand master on the charge the combat is most likley going to the grand master.  The master gets 4 attacks, hits on 4+, wounds on 2+ no save.  My example was a little off.

I would simply put a captain with the knights instead of the grand master.  That way I can have the leadership of the elector count in my infantry and still add some punch to my knights.  The elector also allows you to take the griffon standard in a massive block of spearmen, giving you a +7 Cr even before adding a flanking detachment.

P.S. CR stands for Combat Resolution.

What about the Griffon Standard carried by a unit of greatswords?

Greatswords can benefit from the Griffon Standard, but it's better elsewhere as the Greatswords are stubborn and less likely to break in the first place. Other troops are wimps and need all the help they can get.

Hey if you want a good elector count on a steed, go for The Mad Count himself Marius Leitdorf. His stats are here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/244511.page

Curses! Just when you've finally managed to bring the whole world under your evil influence some pathetic little Inquisitor goes whining off to the Adeptus Terra about rogue psykers and daemonic possession. I mean, do I look possessed? Well, do I? DO I???
