You may have seen this at the BnC.

Well, this is actually some ground-work for a Cites of Death (it's so neat!) scenario. The basis is a defending army is escorting an Imperial Commisioner or somesuch dignitary out of an embattled sector of the city. The dignitary drives a randomly determined vehicle, from this list:

Unless noted, the vehicles are simply "imperial" versions of modern-day vehicles. Unless otherwise noted, they have a foorpint of no larger than three by three inches.

===========

1 - Sports Car
2 - Armoured Car
3 - Truck
4 - Van
5 - SUV
6 - Limosine

Here are some tenative rules for these vehicles.

1 - Sports Car: in a universe where the majority of the populace walks or takes public transportation, there are still some moneyed indivuals that like to show how much cooler they are, or even compensate for something. These vehicles are built for speed and style, with little regard given to safety or ruggedness. On many Imperial worlds, this blatant display of individuality and envy be slipped by as they aren't nearly as "faithful" as one might like.

Sports Car: Armour - Front - 8 - Side - 8 - Rear - 8
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 4 models.
A sports car counts as open-topped (even if in power-amour), and fast.
No weapons may be mounted on this vehicle.
Dangerous terrain tests for over 6" are taken an extra D6.

2 - Armoured Car: Converse to the sports car, some inviduals cannot enjoy enough protection, and wander their cities in armour cars. Designs vary from civilian cars with extra armour plates, to buggies with a thick transparent plasteel booth in back, but all use the same profile. These vehicles are made for keeping their occupants alive.

Armoured Car: Armour - Front - 10 - Side - 10 - Rear - 10
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 4 models.
Firing Points: 2
An armoured car counts as having Extra Armour vehicle upgrade.
No weapons may be mounted on this vehicle.

3 - Truck: A utilitarian vehicle that is of great help to farmers and contruction workers who have need for a cheap yet efficent hauling vehicle. Ocassionally the wealthy drive large and pretty versions of these vehicles (but never do any work in them for fear of scratching the paint).

Truck: Armour - Front - 9 - Side - 9 - Rear - 9
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 7 models.
Open-topped, and may move up to 18" in the movement phase.
1 defensive, crew-operated weapon may be mounted in the back of the truck, but this removes 1 space for passengers. This has a 180 degree firing arc.

4 - Van: A civilian form of the APC, without the armour. This is commonly used as public transportation in neighborhoods.

Van: Armour - Front - 9 - Side - 9 - Rear - 9
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 8 models.
Open-topped (unless the accoupants are wearing power-amour), and may move up to 18" in the movement phase.
A single defensive, crew operated weapon may be mounted in the Van, and counts as hull-mounted to one of the Sides. This removes 1 passanger slot.

5 - SUV: Sport Utility Vehicles are rough-and-tumble vehicles built to traverse otherwise dangerous terrain far from civilization. However, it mostly sees the use of transporting kids to soccer.

SUV: Armour - Front - 9 - Side - 9 - Rear - 9
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 7 models.
Open-topped (unless the accoupants are wearing power-amour). May move up to 18" in the movement phase.
Counts as having dozer blades.
A single defensive, crew operated weapon may be mounted in the SUV, and counts as hull-mounted to one of the Sides. This removes 1 passanger slot.

6 - Limosine: Like the sports car, the limosine is a symbol of wealth and status. Unlike the sports car, it is dreadfully slow, but cna holds more than a few friends.

Limosine: Armour - Front - 10 - Side - 9 - Rear - 9
Crew: 1 driver.
Transport: May carry up to 10 models.
Open-topped (unless the accoupants are wearing power-amour).
Up to two defensive, crew operated weaponx may be mounted in the Limosine, and each counts as hull-mounted to one of the Sides (although they may be pointed to different sides). This removes 1 passenger slot per weapon.

Defensive Weapon Options

Twin-linking doubles the slot requirements.

Storm Bolter: 1 slot.
Heavy Bolter: 2 slots
Flamer: 1 slot
Lasgun/Autogun: 1 slot per 2
Plasmagun: 2 slots, gets hot! (only on a 1, even if rapid-fired due to the extra space for cooling and general caution of the gunners)

Looks good but I would significantly cut the number of options there. Keep it simple to something like Car and truck.

I just got a pile of 1:43 die cast cars and might add rules for them.

Also you need tules for monsterous creatures throwing cars!

Roll under S to lift car, car may be carried but subtracts 1 A, may be fired instead of shooting one weapon, is thrown 2D6 + creature's S - vehicle's frontal AV, mark point of impact and resolve as vehicle annigilated, passengers may disembark from carried vehicle but it may not shoot, wrecks and immobilized vehicles may also be lifted in same manner.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Very cool set of rules, but I agree with KK in that there should be just a few types (car, truck, armored car). Also how is that the trucks and vans go 18" but the sports car doesn't get any extra movement? Maybe you give the Fast rule to the sports car or something.

Looks good but I would drop the armor on them, AV8 on a sports car means that a bolter needs a 4 to glance, further off is the limosine (which essentially provides no more protection to its engine/fuel/tires etc than a sports car does.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

Umm, BigSexy, look at the sports car entry... it's already Fast.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Hmm, I did toy aorund with just a few cars: but it was so fun to make them that i just kept going!

Picking up rules would be an intersting thing: looks lkike you two have a good idea on that.

Hmm, suppose dropping the AV on all sides by 1 would be in order?

I like it, do they have a point cost? I know they don't cos they're randomly chosen but did you try going through the vehicle creation rules for them? See what they would add up to being?

Where's the 'Techical' entry? The civilian ute with virtually no armour that's fast and mounts a nice big machine gun on the back (Heavy Bolter, Multi-Laser or Autocannon would be the best bet).

That would be good.

There are no points for these vehicles as they are simply an "objective" to be controlled by the defending player. I have no interest in going through the VDR for these... if someone else wants to, fine, but they'll probably be expensive, and they aren't exactly additions to the armies.

Although, that did give me an inspiration: a scenario where small squads could hijack civilian vehicles...

Hmm, as for HBMC... what exactly is a "Techical"?

A rebel vehicle like a pick up with a fifty cal on the back. Middle east and S. American Milita use them all the time.

PS I can't find the VDR rules any more - any one have them anywhere?

Sorry, I should say Technical, as in the pick-up trucks with the machine gun on the back

HBMC I could see those as either

armor 8 open topped (max 12")

or same characteristics as a a marine assault bike (sans marine characteristics).

You need a pinto entry:

AV 7
open topped
A pinto attempting to move though difficult terrain automatically suffers a glancing hit
If passengers attempts to fire from a moving pinto any misses count as glancing hits
If a Pinto is immobilized or destroyed, immediately treat it as though it rolled a 6 on the ordnance damage table. It and all models aboard are anhilated. All models within 6" are wounded on a 4+.

Replace the pinto with a crater and a singed recall notice.

That is hilarius!

I think I might replace the sports car with that one.
