Subject: Choir vs another Gunfex?

So, at 1850 points is choir a better choice than a third Gunfex? At 1500 it seems like you'd be ok since you've got 8 MC's, but when you go to 1850 you still have only 8 of'em plus some tyrant guard. I'm just unsure whether or not it'd be worth it... Anyone have any thoughts/experience?

choir to provide synapse just incase the fexes don't want to walk where you tell them. or blast a hole in that pesky tank that is trying to waste your precious MCs.

Some armies (DE,some eldar, IG.orks........so forth are just too easy with the choir.

Personally, I have never been disappointed with 3x Gunfexes. When they have the extra wound, you have 15 wounds between them, and that is very intimidating for some opponents. Stick them in buildings, and they'll be getting great cover saves too.
This also frees up the psychic slots on your tyrants, so you can take warp field on your flyrant, and shadow of the warp on your walker.

Is choir really any good against Marines anyways? I would think that having them run from combat and shoot you again when they autorally is the *last* thing you'd want...

Choir works frigging great on marines. Rolling LD4-5 for target priority makes them play 'shoot the dakkafex' a lot. You forget that barbed stranglers are pinning, also. Rolling pinning tests on LD5 is no fun . It also does wonders against Assault marines. They get close enough to charge, I choir them and then dakka each squad until it rolls break checks on LD5. Then it runs 3d6". Having some S10 guns that can penetrate is huge. Being able to make drop podding marines pay for the privilege by eating a warp blast is nice. Forcing your opponent to roll psychic tests on a 6+ with his librarian, also a hoot. Choir gives you an easy win against Necrons, which the all TMC list doesn't have (not without a flying warp fielded Tyrant, for sure).

Good point, Longshot.
Especially about Necrons. I managed a win when the Lord + 18 warriors rolled an 11 on morale vs my Warrior+Hormagaunt charge and ran off the board...ouch. If necrons were rolling vs LD5...wow.

yar, necrons are very vulnerable to leadership when you can stack penalties on. A daemonic visage demon prince can really put the hurting on necrons for instance (knock'em below half, outnumber 2-1, and suddenly it's LD5).
The thing is, choir works great against anything that isn't fearless, and if it's fearless it's paying a point premium for it which means its model count will be low enough for you to shoot squads to death at a time and also make warp blast really pay for itself (when you get 20-25pts per marine instead of 15 it starts to be decent).

Not to mention, though the Marines will be autorallying and shooting, they will be doing so from a bit farther away, possibly having to move back into the cover they were occupying so that it doesn't block LOS.
It knocks them off objectives as well.
With the added advantages of the Warb Blasts, it helps out alot against the lists that cause zillas the most problems.

Though generally the zilla list does want to get into CC with shooty enemies so against the meqs sometimes you dont actaully want them running, course this is not a huge problem with 18" range you can keep the screams out of range if you so wish.

So are we talking about Zoes with warp field, scream, and another power? Does that get too expensive or are they left alone because the MCs are eating all the heavy weapons fire?

I always always forget The Horror. bah. Usually Choir zoeys get psychic scream and warp blast. You can't have 3 powers on a zoey. It's really a decent idea to give one of them synapse for escalation if you have lame luck like me

They come with warp field.
Also, it is foolish not to get two extra powers. It is almost always worth the points.
Generally scream and warp blast, with the option of synapse for escalation.
