Played a tournament here in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Finland</st1:country-region></st1:place> just last weekend.

Was a 3 game tourny, 1500pts, games where random gamma games so basically each table could be playing a different mission than the one next to them...was an interesting concept..

My armylist:

Shas'o - Cyclic Ion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Stim injector, vector thrusters, multitracker 130pts
Shas'el - Helios config, array, multi-tracker 97pts

3 Crisis
- team leader, plasma, missile, array, hwmulti, 2 shield drones
- plasma, missile, multi

3 Stealths /w 5 drones 150pts
3 Stealths /w 4 drones 140pts

6 FireWarriors 60

10 Kroot 70

10 Kroot 70

Hammerhead - railgun, sms, decoys, multi, lock, pod 185

Hammerhead - railgun, sms, decoys, multi, lock, pod 185

Hammerhead - railgun, sms, multi, lock, pod 180

Game 1 was against necrons.
Mission was Recon

Necron list:
Lord with veil and phase shifter (other random stuff)

10 warriors 180
10 warriors 180
10 warriors 180

10 immortals 280

5 destroyers 250

Monolith 235

Necron player deployed 2 warrior units on his left flank:
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=S5300002&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

And the lord, immortals, 1 warrior unit and the destroyers on the right flank.
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=S5300003&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

I deploy as seen in the pics with my stealths on the left going after the warriors, kroot in the center utilizing the forrests cover and my longer range guns in the center.. my 2 HQs deploy to the right to take on the warriors and immortals with some nice jsj action from behind the forrest.
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=S5300011&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

My opponent opts to deepstrike the monolith.

Turn 1:
I win the roll but give it to my opponent as there really is almost nothing his army can see to shoot at.

The 2 warrior units on the left try to see the kroot but since we rolled dusk and dawn for turn 1 he cannot see, neither can his destroyers see my hammerheads.

Turn 1:
my stealths shoot a warrior or 2 on the left, my rails and the crisis suits fire on the destroyers. 4 die, I try to finnish them off with the kroot but fail to do so! grrr.

Necron turn 2:
Monolith does not come on.
3 destroyers come back up!

The destroyers shoot and down a hammerhead. (damn that 1 destroyer that just wouldnt die! (made like 4-5 saves)

Tau turn 2:
I fire my crisis and 2 tanks at the destroyers killing them this time, while keeping out of range of my opponents immortals, my HQs take pot shots at the advancing immortals (was recon after all)

Necron turn 3:
Monolith deepstrikes in.
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=S5300006&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

Pie plate scatters off harmlessly enough, perhaps it killed a shield drone.
Flux arc (I think he fired them both) stunns a hammerhead.

10 warriors fire gauss at my other hammerhead causing 3 glances (obviously
So both are stunned.
Immortals and warriors on the right are out of range, ones on the left kill a kroot or 2.

Tau turn 3:
All Railguns stunned!
Crisis suits fire on necrons on the top left, kroot and stealths also. Few fall, most get up. My CIB HQ suit kills 4 immortals now that they are in plasma rapid fire range, other one kills 1 aswell...

Necron turn 4:
all but 1 immortal get up again! wiiii

Gauss flux causes wounds all round, on the crisis suits, both kroot units and on the 6 FWs, kroot take a check but pass.

Both hammers stunned again.

Tau turn 4:
My 2 HQs on the right still duelling it out with the immortals and warriors on the right (granted the opponent is not getting to fire back)

Hammers are stunned again so not much I can do there.

Stealths kroot and crisis firing ont he warriors up top again, I manage to take 1 squad out this turn and they are just over 6" away from the other squad so cannot WBB.

Necron turn 5:
warriors squad on the left moves up to rapid fire on my stealths killing most of the drones from a stealth team. immortals on the right are still walking up the field with the warrior squad and the necron lord.

Lith portals the warrior unit from the right near my army and they  fire on my hammerhead bringing it down.

Lith fluxs arcs a crisis suit, and the 2 hammers causing 1 glance (before the immortals fired).

Tau turn 5:
HQs continue jsj against the necrons on the right, taking down most of the immortals and breaking them (but most get up again next turn, making them a scoring unit again!)

I am down to 1 hammerhead (its shaken)

Crisis suits fire on the immortals that portaled near me and with rapid fire plasma a 3-4 go down, the kroot mange to take down the last one that is left.

I decide that instead of going for the oppoentns DZ with my

Necron turn 6:
lith portals the immortals (thus making them scoring again after a few get up)
with the wreck of a hammerhead near them they cannot see anyone but a unit of kroto so the immortals take out said kroot unit.

Warriors fire on my last hammerhead but this time no luck and all they manage are a few shaken results.

Tau turn 6:
As the immortals are still falling back (they where under half strength so could not regroup the previous turn) I move my hammerhead in next to the lith, within 6" of the immortals so they cannot regroup next turn either (thus forcing them to fallback into the monlith and be destroy as they are trapped with where to go)

the rest of my fire goes into the 2 remaining warrior units, the one on the top left is reduced down to 5 strong as 3 warriors fall down, the one that portalled through the lith a few turns earlier is assualted by my kroot after being shot by the crisis suits....

Necrons are dangerously close to phase out at this point (something like 2 away) but I forget to assualt the warriors up top with my 2 stealth teams and phase out does not occur...

Necron turn 7:
Immortals run and are destroyed.
warriors in cc with my kroot kill off most of the kroot and run the rest down...

Up top the warriors (now 8 strong again) assualt a stealth team, win combat by killing a drone and we are tied up in CC (damn my foolishness for not making the free jump moves to get out of assualt range!)

Tau turn 7:
well my cheaper HQ has little to do so it takes a pot shot with its melta against the monolith (first shot at the damn thing all game!) 2+ to hit check, 6 to glance check, 6 to destroy check.....well that is 1 monolith down :=)

I manage to run a single stealth team into my opponent DZ (as the other is stuck in CC)
the crisis suits make it also but that is about it.

(we didnt really play 7 turns, I just mixed things up abit so it ended up looking like it in my report.....cant remember where I went wrong)

Anyway I score with a stealth team and crisis unit, opponent scores with a warrior unit that is on 5 warriors iirc, just on half...

After kills I manage only a 13/7 win.

I underestimated the power of the lith and made a silly mistake with the stealths that cost me valuable points.....

Could have played the mission alot better, esp after the opponent deployed the way he did! (split his forces).....

Nice report. It sounds like it was pretty well matched. Out of curiosity, what is the Helios pattern? I can't remember.

I like the list - I don't play Tau, but my brother does. Have you ever tried running more FW units? a pair of 8-mans works well whenever we play, and that's when he's fighting BT and Guard.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Game 2:

FERREL Orks

Warboss with mega-armour /w rokkit

20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots
20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots
20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots
20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots
20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots
20 madboyz with doc /w rokkit /w 3 drug dealer grots

DINOSAUR (massive squigoth) 3*tl rokkets
DINOSAUR (massive squigoth) 3*tl big shootas
3*kannon/lobba whatever (the indirect ones)

Mission was gamma take and hold...

Deployment Orks:
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=Orks1&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=Orks_2&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

As you can see it takes quite alot of space to deploy 160 orks + 2 dinosaurs so he had to spread out across the board.

I managed to get some distance between my armour and his tl rokket dino atleast to stop the first few turns of shooting.

I win first turn roll and perhaps shortsightedly decide to take it...

Tau turn 1:
Railhead 1 shoots blast template....hits....12 orks killed
Railhead 1 shoots blast template....hits....10 orks killed
Railhead 1 shoots blast template....hits....10 orks killed

Throw in the 12 smart missiles and we are talking almost 40 DEAD orks!!!!

Basically I started clearing the board from the right side in order to give myself a place to fall back to once the horde got too close.

Don't have to go into too much detail this game, basically stealths jsj while staying out of ork assualt range all game, doing massive damange, rails continued to do massive damage all game, my opponent started counting my railhead hits as I never seemed to miss, I think it was 11/14 hits for the game iirc.

Basically all the orks managed to do was take down 1 hammerhead with the tl rokkit dino on turn 5. the tl big shoota dino killed the drones of 2 crisis and the other 2 suits (I accidently hid the ICs while leaving hte normal crisis in enemies los)

Most of the game the orks spent trying to see the stealth suits and failing to do so.

After the first 4 turns the orks where down to just 2 madboyz squads as my smarts even killed the lobba crews. he set the dinos in a wall to prevent my fire but my SMS fire killed 1 of the madboy units while my stealths flanked the dinos and shot down the warboss....

On the last turn I managed to finally kill the tl rokket dino (was tough as it was T7 in 4+ COVER)
I used the emtpty zone I created on the right to keep myself out of assualt the entire game:
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=Tau_wall&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

On the final turn my 2 hammerheads went to take the objective:
http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=End_game&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

They where assualted by the dino and the ???? hmm something with a powerclaw anyway....
Neither hit far as I can remember....

I had 2 hammers on the objective and the opponent had a madboyz unit...

I lost a unit of kroot and the crisis team while my opponent lost all but a unit of madboyz and 1 dino....

Wish I had taken the last turn instead of the first, mission really would have played to the Taus mobile strengths had I done this...

As it was I ended up with just a 13/7 win even though I basically decimated my opponents army with little losses.....well lesson learned:
PLAY THE MISSION!

This put me on 26/40 points and playing on table 2...

Table 1 had my mates Mech eldar vs Godzilla nids.

http://www.ageofstrife.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Bugs&id=HQ_FWs&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

Mission was Seek and DESTROY...

Being the cunning man I am I came up with a brilliant plan to get my opponent to spread out (as if that requires alot against orks)
I was then going to swing my entire army round to the left side of the table as most of opponents rokkits (24" range) where more to the right...

Well this seemed like a good idea but after my opponent stunned the tank on the right in the center of the table he was able to keep enough rokkits on the tank to continue keeping it stunned most of the game before it was destroyed on turn 5...

Basically my 6 FWs + crisis team + 2 HQs did the jsj thing from behind the forrest on the right (as seen in the pic) Nothing my opponent could do really, he did drop like 4 basilisk pie plates on the crisis team trying to stop them but my shield drones saved ALOT of wounds (maybe 6 before I lost the drones! and I managed to kill the bassie with side armour SMS shots the following turn!)

nothing all too interesting happened on the right flank for most of the game, I shot, he saw nothing...I shot, he saw nothing...........

On turn 5 though things ALMOST got interesting as the slow ass (mega armour) warboss was around 15" from my crisis team.... however there was a ork squad in charge range (just barely) opponent opted to join the warboss into the squad (thus they had to take a dif terrain test on the charge) he rolled a 5....charge failed....so he almost got into CC on that flank!

On the left it was much the same.... Basically I was shooting at the flash gits whever I could all game, grotts making insane 30 foot jumps into the air and catching my SMSs on route and saving a few here and there, but the orks where taking insane amounts of ld checks all game and running back and forth (mobbing up)

Opponent deployed a killer kan on either side which where a MAJOR pain as they stopped my crisis suits getting too close on the left! and even caused some annoyence on the right (cant remember why though) I managed to finnaly immobilize the one on the left flank on turn 5 allowing my stealths free raign....

Things did get somewhat dicey on the left flank as the big mek with 2+ save (IC so could not get railshot at it untill turn 5) got into CC with my stealth team (killer kan came at them from 1 side while the mek came from the other...)

Well no worries my stealths are INSANE CC fighters! I send them to special training camps to work on...No not their shooting! Close quarters fighting skillz ofcourse! why else would they carry those knives around! shees.

Anyway, so far they have killed a carnifex, 200+ chaos lord on bike with 2+ save! Avatar....you name it! and this is just inside the 10 games or so I have played with my tau!

So like I was saying....big mek assualts....I am in cover so attack first...drone does nothing...2 stealths hit with 1....cause 1 wound.....opponent fails 1 2+ save
He strikes with his 5 power klaw attacks pfft I say!!!

5 attacks, 4 misses, 1 failure to wound.....1 failed ld test later said big mek runs for the hills! unfortunately his higher init allows him to escape (for now)
I proceed to put a railgun hole into his chest the following turn...

Last turn or 2 is just mop up... I lose almost nothing this game..... 1 Hammerhead went down

20/0 win for the Tau

Puts me on 46/60 game points! and 2nd place for the tourny...

My mates eldar take the tourny with 47/60 points....

He had an easy enough time as the 1st game was not too tough and the 2nd was against a deathwing wannabe SM army (eldar vs deathwing.....)

Still he did manage to tie the Zilla nids which has always been his nemesis army (well....ever since I made a zilla army that is)

Allround it was a good tourny, I was actually hoping to play vs orks as that is exactly the kind of army my tau are built to take on (though the 5 crisis suits are horribly innefective against squishy things like orks) That said I dont think I really need any more ork opponents.... Think I proved to myself that orks arent a real threat to mech tau...

(wow I actually finnished a batrep!)
Next tourny rep will be in a few weeks, Biggest tourny in Finland, 2 days, 5 games, 1 winner....

Three railheads == sad time for Orks. I've played that same game with my 1500pt Tau list, and it basically involves me rolling dice while they pull models off the field

Basically yea..... Their antitank being 24+6" and S8 to boot really just does not cut it!

Zzaps are generally nice but considering their range and the fact that tau use skimmers they are not great...throw in the taus SMSs and they become even worse.

Throw in fire warriors at 30", stealth suits JSJing a billion shots and 24" + jsj crisis suits, blah blah etc etc.

Orks are to Tau as Tau are to Necrons, really (though lots of defectives play Necrons ). I hate rock paper scissors.

Well the plasma/missile crisis where not much of a threat to anything other than the 30pts rokkit/burna trucks tbh...

I imagine any slow assualt army with be rather easy for tau.
