That planet out past Pluto that's larget than Pluto which led to both being kicked out of the planet club had been named. Eris, after the greek godess of chaos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/136199_Eris Chaos is within our solar system. I fear the end is near.

Apparently, Eris was a goddess of lawlessness, which given the objects original nickname of Xena, is still an homage to Xena - who was played by Lucy Lawless.

Hm, if Lovecraft was still alive he could write about this stuff too. Something about Yargoth (sp?) being a peaceful planet and this new one being the true menace - something like that.

Yuggoth. The planet on the very outer rim o the galaxy. Populated by great tiers of black stone. A binary moon lovingly rotates a slow languorous dance with its mate. Its quite odd too, as one of Lovecrafts contemporarys "Lupoff" hints about the planet "X" to be yuggoth. "X" being the tenth planet. Although Lovecraft admitted that Pluto was Yuggoth. Lupoff also wrote that planet X was almost twice the size of jupiter and had a orbit that was perpendicular to the solar plane. Eris isnt that big, but he has a Verne like capacity for forshadowing. Randolph Carter laughs at us with clicking insect like sounds of mirth and terror at our discovery of the celestial body from which he can never hope to return from, in his original form. He was not sure of his "symbols". We would be good to stay well enough away from Eris. Dhole worms lurk in the dark depths of the core there. Its notable that Lovecraft wrote of Yuggoth before the Lowell observatory discovered pluto in 1930.

OK, astronomy history lesson. Thanks to Newton's theories and calculous astronomers in the 19th C were able to observe irregularieties in the orbits of the known planets and theroized they were being pulled by other planets further out. Neptune was discovered solely by this method. However even after Neptune was discovered there were still unexplained irregularities which led to the Planet X theory. At the time there were just 8 planets, the X was for unknown not the roman numeral 10. Pluto and Eris it happens are not planet X, they too small to explain the discrepencies. The theory called for a Jupiter sized world beyond the orbit of Neptune. However the Voyager probes showed that estimates of the masses for some outer planets were too low, once the proper masses were observed the discrepencies were explained. So Lovecraft et al were refering to a then-current astronomical theory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_X
