Subject: Questions on customizing scouts

I want to do a scout squad that has BP+CCW's and has a Power Fisted Sarge. But I have a couple of questions. I don't like (and I'm not good at) painting flesh, so I'd like them to have helmets, but I'm not sure where I can get some suitable looking helmets for the plastic scouts. I also don't know where to go to get a Power Fist to put on the Vet Sarge in the squad. I'd appreciate some help on what to kit-bash to get the bits I need.

try ebay - they have lots and lots and lots of items, otherwise theres battle wagon bits - i think its bwbits.com or something like that... pity i had 3 powerfists i wasnt using...
the helmets - maybe try the cadians / kasrkings - or just use GREEN STUFF to make face masks like the eldar scouts and give them a set of Night Vission Goggles - can use GS to make that too.
out of curiosity why are you doing CC scouts??? as infiltrators and snipers / rocket launchers - they can cause real trouble, but as CC they only have a 4+ armor save as opposed to SM 3+ save... just curios. - it would look cool if you made them into a "ninja" squad give them some nice looking blades instead of the regular chainswords - just a thought.

ooh i forgot - basically i took one of my powerfists and chopped it down to make it look squarer and more like the powerfist in the Imperial Guard Codex - also used GS to make three chevrons on it... it looked quite cool like that and may look good on scouts that way.

You could get the heads from Necromunda Enforcers. They have a sort of rounded, SM look to them.

Battlewagon Bits is your friend. Marine helmets, power fists, all that there. Though why you are going to use those hideous plastic scouts is beyond me, they are GW worst plastic infantry kit out there, and they have a lot of crap plastic infantry kits. See if you can't scrounge up some of the now OOP metal CCW/ BP scouts, they were some of GW's best sculpts. It's pretty easy to jewlers saw off the heads, dremel out a hollow in the neck and glue in a SM head. Ditto with sawing off a left arm and replacing it with a power fist. I'll try to get some photos of my converted metal scouts, I've done about ~40 conversions to 'em (some minor, some complex) and even the stock figures knock the snot out of the plastics.

I used helmets from hasslefree on my scouts from this accessories pack: http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=506 I used the helmet in the middle of the 3 - you can't properly tell from that picture but it's a full-face plate helmet very similar in design to this figure All you need to add is a blob of greenstuff in the neck region and they look really good - they're quite a bit fuller than elysian heads. I'll try and take pics of the results tonight

One thing I did with Catachans who also have horrid heads (and I can't paint flesh well at all anyway) was green stuff ninja face masks. You may want to file some of the details on the head down but it looks something like this:

There was an article on Black Gobbo with examples of similar conversions. One of the better ones showed chaos warrior head (with the horns taken off) on space marine scouts.
