with the sacred numbers of the chaos gods, how does it work?

ive read the codex but it doesnt explain much. do you get a free champion or something or free armoury stuff?

Sacred number demon squads get a +1 to reserve rolls.

Sacred number squads (including the AC and any characters if it is a retinue) get a free aspiring champion upgrade.

Yes. As in you pay for items from the armoury as normal, but not the +xx to get the Expiring Champion.

Only in the specific armies are the sacred numbers applicable. Look in the books of the gods in the back.

Listen to Sutekh. You only get the sacred number bonuses if you accept the restriction of playing one of these legions:
-Death Guard
-World Eaters
-Thousand Sons
-Emperor's Children

Armies in these legions get the free champion and the +1 summoning for favored units if they follow the restrictions: they must give all units marks and can't take any unit that can't have a mark (so no obliterators in any of these armies, for example).

All other chaos armies get no bonus for favored squads.
