Has anyone seen or done orcs a different colour to the standard grenn? I was thinking of doing a red variant similar to the Uruk-hai but would like to see some examples if anyone has any.

ive seen one guys army - he painted his regular orcs a kind of light murky muddy color with a tinge of redness, then as the orcs got bigger and badder and more important he started making them darker and redder until his Warboss or main HQ unit who was almost "glowing" purple-red... nice idea to show waaargh i guess.

I've got a friend whose been researching mushrooms in different environment (since orks are supposed to be a fungus essentially) to come up with his color scheme, right now he's talking about going with an almost albino color scheme and saying his orks are an underground variety

The fluff really leans against any skin color but green for orks in 40K. You could, however, use green as the skin color, but have it mostly covered by red warpaint, which is popular for orks.

My friend is painting his Orks red, it works very well. I think the Uruk-hai skin color would work fine.

Maybe the Orks got partial to red mushrooms? A while back in WD there was a spread about different coloured goblinoids (Kobolds I think they called them...not the DandD versions but goblin conversions) so I really can't see any issues with different coloured Orks. I have some Hasslefree Bohkin (like Gretchin but far better) that I painted from Dark flesh, through Terracotta upto a highlight of a Dwarf Flesh/Terracotta hi-lite...they look pretty fine to me. Red is good

from someone who is not well versed on 40k fluff i think it's cool . the thing i like about 40k is you can make your models the way you want , especialy for orks .

I should have clarrified that it was for fantasy not 40k because i agree on not being sure about anything but green for that but the warpaint is a good idea and would be very workable in fantasy. Me thinks I will have to have a little think about this. If anyone has got pics of non green orcs PLEASE post them up here. I WANNA SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! edited due to crap typing skills

Go with it,since its fantasy, there can always be some corruption/magic/warpaint/genetic/'shroom specie and whatnot that makes them any other colour than green.I actually think remembering that in the 'how to paint citadel minis' book that there was an ork that had a rather greyish colour skin.

Grey had crossed my mind too kind of like grey Hulk...dammit too many ideas....might paint a few units different colours to represent a orc and gobbo alliance with different regions banding together ( no laughing..i can dream!) for the biggest WAUGH of all time......hmmmmmm......will have mull over it.

Warcraft has red orcs in it done up in a more rust-colored scheme. Think a ruddy brown base, dark ruddy brown shade, then highlight starting with a brownish red base to a rust-orange top highlight. Forest (DA) Green eyes instead of red, and any clothing/armor/details picked either dark brown, yellow-brown, bone or rusty silver metalic hues.

There's a painted grey and red Orc in the How to Paint Citadel Miniatures book. It's a piece of crap but you wanted images... and besides, it might inspire you to do better (you couldn't do much worse).

I did my trolls red (see avatar at left), and I think a 40k red ork army could look pretty darn cool. As for fluff... well, 40k orks are a form of plant life. And the plant kingdom is nothing if not colorful. If the fluff folks REALLY get on ya about it, you COULD argue that your ork clan is REALLY does believe red 'uns go fast'a... so much so they paint/dye themselves red. In any case, I say go for it!!

me too, variety is the best part of 40K, paint em pink if that tickles your fancy.
Like the pink Necrons, those things are hillarious. ALthough i would never have taken the time to paint an entire army pink with white flowers to that good of a standard.

I seem to remember that the original fluff for Orcs had them starting out light green and turning darker as they grew bigger, older and stronger. That seems to have gone totally out the window these days so I say t'hell with it, there's no viable reason why there shouldn't be red orcs roaming the Warhammer world (altho' there is a danger of them looking like mutated khorne worshippers tho').

Red Orks are totally possible. Alge comes in different colors besides green so why not orks. Red wwould be cool and albino orks look cool. I found this ork swamp squigoth painted by victoria lamb that has a really cool painted reddish/brown ork. I am going to be painting most of my feral ork army this same scheme just wish I had victoria's skill. http://www.coolminiornot.com/11016

As has been said... the fluff is 100% against it... but who cares!
Go for it. Do what you want.
I have a D&D (Chainmail) Ltd Edition Ogre Mercenery that I painted Blue... WITH GREEN HAIR...
He looks sweet as heck... but definitely not in line with the typical D&D colors for Ogres.
Not that I care, though.
