Under the couch

After a brief break to move house yet again (hopefully the last time for at least, oh, 10000 years or so...) I'm more or less back at work.

Got a couple of models finished before the move, but only got pics of this guy. I'll be putting the others online once I uncover the box that has my ultra-high-tech photography rig (ie: sheet of blue cardboard) packed in it.

This guy was a bit of an experiment with the new Sniper Scouts to create a carapace-armoured Guardsman.

Mix of Guard and Scout bits, with a power fist made from a 2nd edition Chaos Marine glove.

As usual, comments and criticisms welcome.

I quite like it.

Up your nose with a rubber hose.

How do I love this model? Let me count the ways...

  1. He's wearing a beret. The kind you find at a second hand store.
  2. Excellent use of the Scout cloak torso.
  3. Adding a Marine bolter sight to an ordinary laspistol makes it look like Han Solo's blaster.
  4. I think gigantor powerfists look stupid, so I'm really digging your use of the Chaos Marine glove.
  5. The greenstuff work is top notch.

The only thing I don't like is something that's not your fault. The legs look too stubby in comparison to the rest of the model, but that's just how Catachan legs are. If it were me, I'd elongate the legs below the kness just a tad, but I'm a little OC when it comes to scale and propotions and such.

He's a perfect Guard Officer... but I don't think he's a perfect Carapace Guard Officer... IMO, he needs some elbow and knee pads to fit the carapace style alittle more.

Besides that.. I really dig it.. the fist is just the right size.

Nice work.

Yup, it's something that tends to come up a lot... I have no idea what they were thinking when they sculpted the Catachans. Wierdest shaped blokes I've ever seen.

Mind you, I have seen a few people with legs like that...

I considered that, but don't really like the knee- and elbow-pad look for Officers. Just doesn't seem particularly Officer-ish to be wearing kneepads, somehow.

GW's carapaced Officers have generally just had the breastplate, so I figured that was more than enough.

This model is awesome. I wish I had half your skills.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
