I'm toying with finishing my 1700 IW army for the 2007 Hall of Heroes circuit - but I don't want to do a cookie cutter style army.  I'm thinking of either - No ordinance or No obliterators.  (I'm leaning towards no ordinance as it is much more reslient that way... (and I don't have the balls to go with none of both.)

Team No-Ordinance

LT, Bike, Mutation, Dark Blade, Meltagun
LT, Bike, Mutation, Strength, Powerweapon, Meltagun
4x 6 Man Las / Plas
3x 1 Man Obliterators
4x 8 Man Havocs w/ 4x Heavybolter and Aspiring Fist Champ

Team No-Obliterators

LT, Bike, Mutation, Dark Blade, Meltagun
6x 6 Man Las/Plas
1x 9 Man Chosen w/ 3x Heavybolter and Aspiring Fist Champ
2x Defilers w/ Hull
1x Vindicator w/ Hull
1x Basilisk w/ Hull and Indirect

I personally like list 1 better as I think it might be funner to play AGAINST.  Let me know what you think.

The IW player in my group never, ever, ever brings his troops without Tank Hunters. And I've gotta say, it's a damn good strategy.

no oblits, how large can your army be?

They hide their faces in snarling iron, but the cruelty, in their hearts is manifest in their brutal deeds. We are lost, and we are done. May the God-Emperor forgive our failure and protect our souls.

4 x 6 lasplas with tankhunters - 72 pts more expensive.

Take those 72 points and you're over halfway to another las/plas squad.

1700p IW army should have roughly

DP
6-8 Oblits
4-5 las/plas squads
4 Possessed Predators

Defilers are a lot less effective than Predators because of obvious reasons (less armor, less firepower, high points cost).

If you want to add some flair take a Biker Lieutenant and a couple Chaos Bikers. They're actually not so bad.

Well, as Ed Maule once famously said: "Therion's from Finland, where comp does not exist. Where he's from the trash we're forced to field for a tournament would lose to a 12 year old." - bigchris1313

I didn't literally mean Troop choices, my bad. I was referring to his Havoks. He usually takes an Autocannon, a HB, and a ML squad of Havoks, all with Tank Hunters, thats some serious tank busting ability, as well as anti-troop.
