A FULL stronghold. Something really impressive at Epic scale - and certainly my best Epic project so far.

Have a look by yourself

Salut Clayman!

...To fellow Dakkites: Clayman is making a reference to a gaming convention in Switzerland, where I entered the "main gates" of the stronghold scenery (along with the interior) in the "diorama" category of a painting contest. And, poor me, I didn't win any prize.

I must admit that it was a strike of opportunity; the stronghold is more a scenery than a diorama by any means. Even its interior. Those days, no diorama is complete without its little nice varnished wooden base

Dude, you do yourself no justice by only showing the one picture above. That is a massive project!! How long did it take? The detail is incredible. Very well done!

Well, I completed the whole thing in about three months. I'm speacking of actual actions from my part - I've thought of what I would do for half a year at least, before doing any modelling.

Putting shapes in place was quite easy, about a week. It took more time to address the details - access ramps, defense turrets, gateways, etc. and to distribute my Squats bitz in order to get the most of them. Then, after a month or so, it was time to base and basecoat everything. The ground was done quickly, but the painting of walls, decals and such took quite some time. Not difficult, just lengthy.

The Stronghold interior took three weeks alone.

Well, I could have flooded this post with plenty of pictures, but I guess interested people will have a look at the whole article, showing around 30 photos along with the how-to text and the whole story. I'm not fond of picture-heavy posts on a forum, with your screen jumping and distorting as each picture gets loaded

Fantastic work.

I particularly like the interior of the stronghold, and the refinary with the pipes all going in one direction.  Adds quite a bit of realism to a building which is quite small.

What is next for you?

For Epic, it'll be Tyranids.
