Hi guys

I've been trying to come up with a nice SM list without falling too much into cliches (i know the librarian IS, but then...). The theme is Adeptus Mechanicus, even if it's not scions of Mars (got tired of wasting 80 pts in a HQ that only allowed 1 shooting re-roll each turn...). Still has 5 nice tanks, 2 speeders, some termis

I would appreciate a lot if you guys could give me some advice and/or thoughts about this list.

Thanks a lot !

I only have a few things to say.

I know that you have already thought about the fluffiness of a librarian, but may I suggest a chappy? Say that he is devoted to the Machine God and Emperor?

I think that you will find that it is really hard to use a Vindicator well, it's a fire magnet and it also really hard for it to hit something worth hitting. You may want to reconsider it.

For points purposes I think that you dont need the Power of the Machine Spirit upgrades, but if you want this for fluffiness then I guess they are okay.

I think that you might want to find somewhere else to spend those Assault Terminator points.

Lastly as a little bit extra, why not take a trait? Suffer not the Works of Heritics?

Hope this helps.

The Hammer

Well, if you've got ONE vindicator all ready... AND you want a Mechanicus theme...

why not add a SECOND Vindicator, same gear, and a Techmarine with a full servo harness and four technical servitors? It's a bucket of points, but arranged in formation you have a phalanx of slow-moving death. Anything short of "Vehicle Destroyed" or "Annihilated" will not faze your 45 "2 of S10 death.

It's a shame Kyoto Inquisitors got nuked by 4th, because they would be highly fluffy - just give them Mechanicus Axes and you'd have one or two human priests of the Omnissiah.

One easy change - unless you've only got those models, the Terminator squad should really be armed with storm bolters and assault cannon. You don't have an LRC to give them a ride, and if they drop they are much stronger shooting eight rending shots when they land than twiddling their thumbs and waiting for your opponent's plasma guns to charge up. Maybe make them an attached command squad to the Librarian so they all show up together.

Another thing - without Scions, you are allowed Captains or Masters as normal.

Kudos on the Landspeeders from a fluff perspective - theoretically some chapters would NOT have assault cannon on all their speeders out of whatever eccentricity they favour, so it's nice to see a concession to the usual WAAC style of a lot of Marine lists.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

First, thanks for your comments, they're quite enligthening.

Second, even if they may be less than optimal, I will keep the assault terminators because even if AC and SB armed termis may have more of a punch when they drop, IMHO striking last with only 2 attack sucks in close combat. Their purpose is to always drop, and go against sucky shooty footsloggers (ie : imperial guard platoons, sm las/plas squads) to take fire away from my tanks and own footsloggers, which are the real treat in this army. usually, by the end of my second turn (if they drop this early) I have sucessfully shot down/incapacitated quite some threat sources, and if they waste a round of shooting on my termis with 1-2 las/plas squads then my tanks will only be grateful and I'll hopefully be laughing

Plus I already have the models, and I like them a lot !!! (plastic termis are awesome !)

Third, the Vindicator is going. Even if I do like the instakilling F10 shot, its not worth 155 pts. I'm currently hesitating on taking a devastator squad with 4 missiles instead, or a predator anihilator with HB sponsons (both scenarios would likely include putting las instead of missiles in my tactical squads). Another option would be a third squad of stormtroopers with a chimera.

What do you think ?

Fourth, thanks for the kudos on the landspeeders, but they are an easy choice to make. I've found out that even Leman Russes fall before them, as 2 multimeltas on landspeeders is dynamite. Plus, they tend to be overlooked by opponents, who prefer to shoot the predators. And AC/HB landspeeders cost a bucket of points, and then they are no longer overlooked by opponents

Fifth, I don't like chaplains. They remind me of blood angels and death company, and they have no other use than close combat. And they're not even THAT good at it (at least compared to what other races have to offer). Plus, adding 150 pts to the Assault termi squad without any added benefit than making them stronger in cc (which is useless against small squads who already will be raped by the termis) is, IMHO, a waste of points. Now, the librarian with his psychic power falls into another category, as he can be sacrificed to drop in the middle of the opponent's army and cause massive fear. And even then, he can make quite a few kills in cc to boot ! Talk about versatility.

Last, for the trait I'll be taking "Never despair", as you never know when an additionnal turn will be crucial, especially in games with objectives.

thanks again !

Hi again.

I shuffled the list a bit, and came up with the following changes :

- the librarian gets upgraded to epistolary, enabling him to get ld 10 (which will be nice for using the hood against eldar + failing the psychic test on a 10 is quite frustrating)
- the assault termis get furious charge, making them even nicer in cc (if they manage to charge)
- the marines squads are replaced with 2x 6 man las/plas squads and 2x 8 man HB squads (las/plas squads are standardly used, HB squads move on 1st turn, get in range to footsloggers, kill some 2nd turn, or worst case scenario just soak up wounds to protect las/plas squads)
- power of the machine spirit is removed from vehicles
- the vindicator is replaced by a predator destructor with HB sponsons

And just to specify the role of IST in chimeras, they are deployed inside transports and are used for drive-bys, ideally on obliterators or other fun stuff so maximize their AP2

Is this making the list stronger or weaker ?

Anyone still has some ideas for tweaks ?

Thanks for your imput !
