Now, as long as burnthexenos isn't lurking in a new login-name, all should be well... *knocks on wood*

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I think you're making a mistake putting any of them in drop pods man. I liked it better with them all on the table.

I just worry that I'll need to have units across the table, or that escalation will cripple the ability of my assault-cannon Dreads to affect the battle. With pods, they can fulfill those needs, or act to counter an opponent's gambit.

How often is a 30" engagement range insufficient? Rarely, for me.

I think the target sautration achieved by putting 6 venerable dreads on the table beats the advantage in placement of the drop pods.

I'd like to see smaller squads, all lascannons, and the Librarian having terminator armor so he can deepstrike solo with FoD if he chooses (because that is just funny).

Also would not mind seeing single landspeeders. I normally think that is pretty gay, but hey, cheap objective grabbers would be sweet.

So cut all the troop squads to 6, lose the drop pods, and you should have points for 3 singleton landspeeders and maybe some random goodies

You know what'd go good? Drop troop squads until you have the points for two terminator command squads. One with an epistolary and one with a master. Give the master one a teleport homer just in case you feel like deepstriking the librarian squad.

I just can't see dropping 2 squads to get one Terminator Command squad, much less four for two. For one thing, I only have enough for one squad; for another, I only have old-school Termies, so they're on normal-sized bases, making them Blast-bait; finally, I shudder at trading 12 guys for 4. I can drop the Speeders and some skills or toys, and take one Terminator Command squad, but I can't really say how I'd handle mobility, in that case.

I actually like the way that army list looks, and if I can get some people to lend me some dreadnoughts this weekend, I think i'll try it out. I think your doing good in keeping the Tac squads over the Term squads. Those 12 men would eat the 4 men up in most cases, especially if you can get the Plasma gun into double tap range.

My only issue with taking such small squads like that, is that it'll make it pretty easy to drop them below scoring unit strength. I've had a few draws where we just simply stopped the game because we beat ourselves to the point where no one had anymore scoring units on the table, and with only needing to kill 3 men a squad to drop you like that, thats not gonna take much to do (especially if you roll 1's like I do).

Lessons learned from Tyranid army: When everything can move 6" and shoot, you are mobile.

I am not sure I like the naked master. I'd do something with him - maybe combat shield and power weapon or something.

Frankly, I would drop all three missile launcher squads and start buying terminators. The list would be way better that way. You can use your dreadnoughts to cover them, and they also move and shoot which is huge.

6 man las/plas squads are efficient. When you swap that to a missile launcher, it's blah. You lose an AP2 gun and a S9 tankpopping gun and gain for 5 pts a piece of crap. Now I'd wager that's just the models you have, so you have to deal with it or face the wrath of the wife (which is why I don't own another 4 or 5 raveners ) or similar.

You know what would make this list fantastic, btw, is if you nipped and tucked the points to make your entire shootie firebase have apothecaries. I wonder if anyone has tried that? 4-5 las/plas squads with apothecaries sitting next to each other hugging in cover. Pricy, but when combined with a VP denial list like the 6 venerable dread list it might be cool. That is just a way out there thought and would involve lots of modeling so go ahead and ignore it, just talking about it for the sake of talking.

djones: Actually, you have to lose 4 out of 6 to lose scoring, since you have to be BELOW half, not at half. Thus, the reason you always take even numbers. The small numbers also make it easy to use cover and to duck out of LOS if neccessary.

Longshot: That is a good point. However, in addition to the bodies, I'm also wanting to stay slightly comp-friendly. It's running that ragged edge as it is, so full Troops slot usage is needed, IMO.

The naked Master is kind of my signature; I'm always using him, and I like a REMF* commander, standing in the back, reading a book and admonishing my troops not to run or to shoot the right guys.

You're right; I managed to find another lascannon model for the 3rd squad, but that's all I've got for the time being. It's less the wrath of a significant other than the wrath of no rent or gas.

I'd like to include the apothecaries; it makes the squads more durable, but the cost (money and points) is a bit much. Nice thought though.

Well, the list did pretty well yesterday; 2 wins, 1 tie, 1 loss. The wins were against Fire-Dragon Biel-tann Eldar and the drop-podding evil-twin of my army, the tie was against Kroot (damn first turn assaults!), and the loss was against Godzilla 'Nids. I'll write a battle report of what I can remember this evening when I get home (rather than sitting in a hotel).
