I like the Carnevale buildings, especially all the color-- pretty much all of the ruins I build are grey stone, but if/when I get around to making some more, I might have to add some different colors.

Those Space Ork raiders really take me back. When RT first came out, all of my gaming buddies and I picked up several packs of each different race before eventually trading and consolidating to only one. I ended up with Eldar, but wish I'd kept at least a few Orks.

Now showing Resistance Fighters and Chaos Warriors!

Painting total as of 1 February 2026: 12

Painting total as of 12/31/2025: 152 plus a Deva King statue

Awesome, dig them out, we can have an ork-off I managed to track down another one of the Troopers on ebay for under a fiver so he'll be added to the mix, going to keep an eye out for them generally I think. Everyone needs a hobby, lol.

bows Thanks kindly sir.

Well a lot of my other buildings are cream and/or brick. These were done with a lot of reference to the colours in that part of Venice today, and it mixes up the whole look on the table.
I have a real core memory of a guy in school bringing in metal epic knights to art class, and then getting some of the RTB1s - but I quickly moved on to orks, and indeed orcs, for the next few years. We never really had full armies, though, so BB was a godsend. Now THAT we played a lot.

Anyway, here's the first one, though not final pics:

The satin varnish is still a bit shiny, so will hit it with matt. I did the yellow the old fashioned way, pink with yellow ink glaze.

Happy with how it turned out, and a good proof of concept. The can on the base is from MCP, and I've done it in the colours of Brewdog's iconic Punk IPA, mostly to contrast with the red.
Whilst I'm not set in stone with doing them as the different Klans exactly, it's a good starting point for a varied palette on the table. Some of the sculpts definitely sell themselves as particular Klans, and blue skin is fun for variety too.

Kommando Ork. Fun fig.

First of the generic troopers. He was primed black, not grey, so decided to go goff. Irn bru bottle for colour contrast.

Can't have goffs without checks. Dems da rulez.

So a Bad Moon and a Death Skull to follow i guess. Not sure any of the have snakebite vibes.

We'll see. A fun distraction.

"Awesome, dig them out, we can have an ork-off"

Done! Picked out a squad of 10. It'll take me a bit to get the old paint off of them... but I'm all-in!

Excelente! Orks a gogo! Strange how motivational these old minis are.

Thanks man, much obliged.
Another!

Had to be a Goff. Don't ask me why.

And the obligatory splash of colour. Keeping it retro with a beakie.

This guy felt very Bad Moon to me.

I had originally planned to do this whole guy the old pink with yellow glaze method, but then I lost the will to live

Instead I added some pink accents as a nod to that.
Loving this wee side project, and have now found some suitable terrain (from deadzone) for it.

Another glorious flash git is up next!

1. I love the way you're painting these. Very old school.
2. IIRC... that model might have been originally painted as a Bad Moon by GW. Long time ago, so I'm not confident in my recollection. Either way it's one of my favorites. Pretty sure I have one somewhere... might have to dig around.

Thanks man. Also, you are a troublemaker....

And the Flash git!

Took a lot of self control NOT to do osl

I'm not massively happy with the sword, but it's OK i guess.
5 left!

The trick with the lightening is that it should be brighter at the source, and thin out as you get away from the power node. I think the easiest way to do that is with layers of thin paint. Do the full web once, then paint a second layer closer to the power node or lightening intersections, then a third layer even closer, etc.

Really crisp bright yellow there. I can't offer much advice for the sword but maybe giving the edge of the blade a lighter blue and starker white lightning would do the job for the flash git.

Such character on these models and your paint palette really brings it out.

Good advice, all.

Thanks mate.

So, after some thought...

Ah. That's better.

More to come!

I can now report that I've removed the paint from my 10 OG ork minis... and have absorbed enough acetone and lead filings through my left had to be both stupid and cancerous. Yippie!

I'll do some priming tonight if I have the right color for it.

Hey graven, shall we post our minis here so everyone can see, or do you want me to keep my pics on my blog?

Brilliant! Good stuff.
I am happy to cross post. Let's see if we can get a proper waaagh going!

Best get on with it!

An update on the death Skull

These are not Final Pics: I will do touch ups as needed and finish the varnish. Still, pretty pleased.

The original boss nob.

Yeah, happy, but not convinced he'll be one of my final 5.

It's a Loota wiv a shoota!

These weird pad motifs remind me of Flesh tearers, which was vaguely where I went here.

Now, all these orks got me thinking there must be a kill team in here, surely?

It turns out I am actually accidentally building a Kommando Kill team. Who knew ?!

Very pleased with the Burna Boy

Comms Boy! Added a SM antenna thing.

I was not sure at all where to go with this guy until I saw the comms Boy, and then it all came together.
And some group shots

So, need to pick 5. Any thoughts?
This has been MUCH fun. More orks may follow, but if nothing else these are hitting the table in a week for Space Gits. Might try to find minis/bits for the other unique Kommandos, and or do some scatter. Or watch as hobby adhd changes tracks once again!

Excellent job graven those old school orks are amazing, you’ve managed to knock them out super quick. Favourites are the death skull, bad moon and goff, but tbh honest it was a tough choice!

I'll have to go through the individual pics, but the meganob and the burna are absolute musts!
