So, here' s my 1850 army list up for review.  Please tell me what you think.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eldar List: 1850 Points.

HQ 1: Farseer  = 150 Pts.
Ghosthelm, Shuriken pistol, Witchblade, Rune Armor, Runes of Witnessing
Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune & Mind War.
-5x Warlocks  = 175 Pts.
    -Warlock 1: Embolden = 30 Pts.
    -Warlock 2: Enhance = 40 Pts.
    -Warlock 3: Destructor = 35 Pts.
    -Warlock 4: Destructor = 35 Pts.
    -Warlock 5: Destructor = 35 Pts.
All Warlocks armed w/ Shuriken Pistols, Whichblades, and Rune Armor.   (
(Footsloggers, they stay ahead of the pack, and serve to act as a decoy for the rest of the army.  If I can keep my opponent focused on them I can proceed to the hammerblow)

HQ 2: Farseer  = 150
Ghosthelm, Shuriken Pistol, Witchblade, Spirit Stones, Doom, Guide,
   Fortune, Rune Armor.
(Runs close to the gaurdians, helps them soak fire/shoot better w/ fortune & guide)

Troops: Black Gaurdians of Ulthwe  = 175 Pts.
13x Black Gaurdians w/ Shuriken catapults.
   1x Starcannon heavy weapon platform.
   2x Platform operators.
1x Warlock Spiritseer w/ singing spear & Conceal.
(This unit acts as an anchor, keeping the wraithlord from being inactive)

Troops: Dire Avengers = 177 Pts.
9x Dire Avengers w/ Avenger Catapults.
1x Dire Avenger Exarch w/ Power Weapon, Shimmerfield, Defend, & Bladestorm.
-Wave Serpent Transport Tank  = 175 Pts.
Spirit Stones, Vectored Engines, Twinlinked Brightlances, Shuriken Cannon
(Part 1 of the hammerblow, moves up and dumps out, dropping a bladestorm on whatever's in range)

Elite: Fire Dragons  = 136 Pts.
5x Fire Dragons w Fusion guns
1x Fire Dragon Exarch w/ Firepike, Tank Hunters, & Crack Shot
(Rides in the Falcon, gets dropped near some armor and proceeds to be part 2 of the hammerblow)

Fast Attack: Warp Spiders  = 272
9x Warp Spiders w/ Death Spinners
1x Warp Spider Exarch w/ Dual Death Spinners, Power Blades, Suprise
      Assault, and Withdraw.
(Part 3 of Hammerblow, followup shooting/assault if need be.  They're the reserve unit, often deepstriking near the dire avengers to take over shooting for them while they 'reload')

Fast Attack: Vyper Jetbike  = 105
Brightlance, Twinlinked Shuriken Catapults, Spiritstones, Vectored Engines
(Fast-mover anti-tank/objective grabber unit.  Can tank-hunt in a pinch, but will usually remain hidden)

Heavy Support: Falcon  = 195 Pts.
Spirit Stones, Pulse Laser, Scatter Laser, TL Shuriken Cataputls,
   Vectored Engines, Spiritsones, Holo-Fields,
(Designed to get the firedragons where they need to be for the hammerblow, then tankhunt/help deal with infantry)

Heavy Support: Wraithlord  = 140 Pts.
   Twin flamers, Wraithsword, Brightlance
(Runs near the gaurdians, also to draw fire, but also to help deal with any close combat nasties that decide the gaurdians are an inviting target.  Role: Tankhunter/countercharge)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's using models I have *Right Now*

I also have an avatar that I'm thinking about stripping and re-painting if I can.  Not sure yet.  However if I do decide to run the Avatar, I can opt to ditch the mindwarring farseer, move the warlocks to run with the other farseer, and replace the falcon for a fireprism (ends up costing 5 points less than the falcon fully kitted out w/ holofield, vectored engines, spiritstones, and shuriken cannon upgrade) to free the 5 point difference I need up.

The Avatar is an awesome choice now; making all units within 12" fearless, in addition to the new and improved statline, but I'm not sure it fits into the whole theme of the army.   I play Ulthwe, so I do like the farseers a lot, and enjoy the supporting role that they have in the army list (also I love the 'mini council' as I've come to call it.  a Farseer and 5 warlocks with fortune is still surprisingly survivable despite the farseers getting -1 to S & T.)

I also have Maugan Ra, and REALLY want to try him out in the list.  Just not sure where I'll pull the points to run him.  I'll have to write a second list up and give it a whirl.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

I've been looking at the Ulthwe for the new Codex. The Avatar is a nice buy now, especially if you are using foot slogging troops. The trade off is the 2nd Farseer. To combat that, I've been looking at using Eldrad as my lone Farseer. 3 Powers a turn and able to move units before 1st turn is pretty important as well.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I had considered using eldrad (as I have the model oddly enough ) but if I field him, I want to field a 'backup' farseer that's pretty much bare-bones. One power (probably mindwar or fortune) Runes of Warding, and mabey witnessing too, and thats it.

The problem I'm finding is the desire to run all the cool stuff in the list, and neglecting to do much with my troop selections.

I really want to field a couple of squads of gaurdians, but am at a loss as to how to field them adequately. The smallest squad size you can field is 10, counting the weapon platform operators, and with a warlock (which is pretty much obligatory if you want them to be survivable at all) that's 11 models. Odd numbers = bad, so add one more gaurdian, and you're up to 12 models, pretty decent sized unit, but still that squad costs in excess of 130 some odd points. Also, I'm working on tring to find out what heavy weapon works best for gaurdians. Shuriken cannon? Brightlance? Scatter-laser?

I'm leaning towards scatter laser, as it's good strength, can at least glance most armor, and has the dakka to lay into a squad fairly well. Brightlance is nice to give the squad an anti-tank shot.

It's a tough call. I'll keep working on lists and try to hit upon one with a decent theme and hopefully effective composition.

Take it easy, and thanks for the thoughts again Sarigar.

I'm going to try my army this weekend. I'm still undecided about my Guardian loadouts. Right now, I'm putting two 10 man squads in Wave Serpents, Starcannon and Destructor Warlock. Why? Because I can and I want to try it out. The Starcannon seems expensive for what it can do. After playtesting the Starcannon, I'm going to try out Scatterlasers.

I'll post up how it plays out.
