The big four items of government expenditure are

Social Security
Pensions
NHS
Education

not necessarily in that order though I know SS is no.1 and it's larger than Trident by a large margin.

I'm not in favour of Trident but if we want to cut government spending we need to cut social security.

Welfare through work, so at least the nation gets something back from those who are getting hand outs, combined with drastic reform in who is "entitled" to what benefits.
