Well it has been a while (moved house!) I have been working on a lot and thought I would take an army whole photo as it currently stands.



Hope to get some more photos taken (and sorry about the bad lighting will hopefully be in a place with much better lighting and/or with light box soon!)

My own place should be this weekend! Just hope things all work out.

As for painting well I hope to start catching up on it as much as I can. So hopefully we will be seeing more puppets and maybe some other stuff soon!

At last! I have internet and that means that when I am done taking pictures that an update is well over due!

and i dare say, welcome back! ^^

Okay so I have been working hard and have got some parts down so when I have some nice daylight I will take some well over due photos.

Currently I have 9 Troopers that need rifles stuck on and basing then I have 2 Dragoons to finish, and then I have completed 3 squads and two heroes.

This then leaves me with 9 Troopers, 4 Dragoons, 3 Grenadiers and 2 Marksmen to complete. The Colour Party is part way done, mainly the detailing on the banner and the flesh.

And then I am going to attempt to learn how to sculpt. The plan is to create 4 Puppet hounds.

So we shall see how things go over the next few weeks (and expect many photos to come!)

seems you have been productive but quiet

that pupppet hounds sounds really good!...if you go for the same look as the other puppet troopers are then this will be mostly just bigger sausages of GS that later on will be looking like sacks stuffed with hay.... so i think that is quite a clever idea to start sculpting! by the way... make sure you get a cheaper material for making the groundworks... wire or plasticcard to get the basic shape... PC tubes would be good for that as you could then cut them to support the pose you like...

i cross fingers for that project!

I have picked up all the bits I have had suggested to me, wire, paper clips, a sculpting tool and a block of superfine grade modelling putty. Going to get some practise in both with wire shaping and to figure out how best to use the putty. Think I might start with something very basic in shape, and having had a think the most basic thing I could find in nature is a swan! So I will post photos of how that goes.

And if I can get some good practise in then I will try the puppies and then there is the other idea that I have, once I have had a bit of practise. I will have a go at building a Highlander company (equipped with huge wooden broadswords!

And to add a photo a rough concept

i like the concept for highland troopers even now...also! if this goes as planned you should condier having a neat talk to tor gamings for maybe using that work of yours then... i think that is a very good idea to add to the faction!


but i have to say... starting with a swan? well...i am intrigued...

I was reading a lot of advice on sculpting and a lot of it says when you start out to try something with a simple shape, and a swan or duck as a vaguely "S" shape. So it seems easy to try.

I have been playing with wire today and I am starting to get the hand of making wire skeletons. When I am happy with the four dogs I will take photos.

funny that you mention wire skeletons... tonight i have done the same... isnpired by a friend here...(not_U) i tried myself in a bit of demon making... i think i will later on ...maybe tomorrow after a bit of resculpting and touch ups show what i did...

and when you put it like that i understand why the swan!

by the way... my own attempt looks already quite as a good dough- man

The first time with putty is always the hardest. I am going to try my best and learn as much as I can to make the best models I can.

Wire Skeletons look quite funky. And mine somewhere between Starfish and Dogs, hopefully the putty will make them look more like what I am aiming for!

and here is me...hopeing you made some step by step pics...fat chance of that going to happen... could have done that today too...but when you are working there is mostly no time for me to pull the trigger...beside my hands are not really what i want on my cam these moments^^

I have completed one so far.

So when I do the second one I will do a step-by-step for how I do the wire skeletons, and I will try and do the same with the putty construction too! Don't worry Vik I plan on sharing the baby steps of learning to sculpt with Dakka!

Besides how else will I get told if I do something silly or that my work looks good!

but as i tried to make my own wire skeleton, and failed three times prior...even smashed a base^^ , i am very much interested^^

Okay so the first of my Wire Skeletons for the Britanian Hounds, 3 more to build and then I can start to bulk them up!



The basic shape is made from a length of a thick paperclip, the legs formed from 0.5mm wire. Super glue ws used to hold the legs to the spine and then covered in Liquid green stuff, to provide additional structural strength.



After filling the gap on the base with green stuff the Skeleton was glued down. A head made from thin card was applied before a layer of liquid green stuff was applied to provide rigidity and to give me a surface to sculpt on later.

looks good...interesting way to work to get that skeleton...me, i only ever twisted the wire to make up the shape... superglueing the parts together somehow was totally out of my ideas...??? hmmm... well i have planned to make some more sculpts soon so then i will try out your idea! thanks for sharing and good luck with the build!

I tried wrapping the wire round the spines but it just kept moving and I started to get angry. So I looked for a better way to get the wires to stick together and it has worked.


as you can see I have managed to build the other three and I also have some finished works.

oh yeah... these look lovely...nice glowy offect on the royal guard! the others look all very good!

and i see you even changed the poseing on the new skeleton! i like those!

and yes... wire tends to shift and slip on wire... it was most vexing for me too...

Each of the hounds has been made different. One standing, one running, one leaping and as they are hunting one pointer

Sometime it just helps to have a lot of green stuff on hand for every job

the pointer i now see too^^ lol... will there be big looling tongues on them? well actually there would be no point for that but i guess it would bring forth the dog-ity of the minis much better^^

I had the idea of them having "felt" tongues I hope that you will not be disappointed when they are done

oh...that actually sounds quite promising...

Not a lot of work been done, I blame my older brother for sending me a belated present that led to the buying of Space Marine. And the loss of about 12 hours playing it between hanging out with my partner, so little time for painting (health issues raising their ugly heads too :( )

But I am feeling like starting my next project, Probably going to be the core of my Carapace Armoured Guard army, it used to be my Daemon/Witchhunters army but alas they screwed the codex over. So 60 Guard to paint, probably in a similar scheme to the puppets.... Photos to come!

Still got a lot to do. many small layers and all that to build up. Green stuff is easier to use than the modelling putty, but I will just keep going to they are bulked up and then work on detailing them.

And troopers are now based! Just the string to do on rifles and then they will get up loaded at long last

i hope health is not threatened by something serious tho?

when prices might fall i probably will give the SM game a try too...

Yeah I will take a better one tomorrow photowise.

Just as the doctor keeps telling me diabetes issues :/ but it is causing me to be in a lot of pain.

As for the Cadians I am thinking Blue armour, Black boots and weapons and off white fatigues I am thinking. Mind I will need more Kasrikins (I have 72 so far...) to build a command squad. Then chimeras...
