Since you're active here...

I'm trying to use the same repo in both my desktop and iPhone verision of battlescribe. (the randomhit repo) It works fine (www.randomhit.org/battlescribe_data/index40k.html) but the iPhone is just chilling at "Downloading data from Repository..."

Is there that much to download?

@rigeld2 It depends quite a bit on your connection. When I tested with an iPod touch over WiFi I think it took about 30 seconds.

It not only needs to download the files, but unzip them and check whether they are in the right format. If they aren't it needs to upgrade the files. This process can take a bit of time.

So just throwing that in the Manage Data section should "just work"?
Or, since you mentioned zip files, should I use http://www.randomhit.org/battlescribe_data/files/WH40K/Warhammer_40k.gst.zip ?

edit: Okay, the xml file is evidently not right I'm getting it to throw invalid data now.... I'll figure out what it wants. Thanks.

I tested with their full repo and that was fine. I wonder if their wh40k one is broken? Not able to test right now.

All you should need to do is enter the URL, click add then click update data.

You shouldn't have to do anything with the zip files - in a pinch, you can use them to manually place the data files on your phone.

@Jon: when last I checked, the RandomHit 40k repo was broken and their admin posted something to their forums akin to him lacking the time to fix it.

I just tried it again, though, and it at least seems to work.

Question for Jon: it appears that it is possible for their to be collisions between datafiles with the same name.

Maybe this is already out there, but if not, perhaps it might be worth mentioning somewhere that one should uniquely name his data files?

@Toumas: my repo, posted above, has one.

^ Yes, Jon is working on adding that feature right now.

Also, Battlescribe is now available for iOS!

Unfortunately, Apple rejected the free version but approved the paid version for some reason, so you'll either have to pay the $3 or wait until the free version comes out.

Glad to hear it. They must have fixed something. Their full repo with everything is a good fallback - I've tried it a couple of times and it's been fine.

Hmm this could be a problem when two repos contain the same file. I'll have to look into it.

Out of curiosity, what's the best way to deal with bugs/mistakes in an army library? I've corrected/improved a couple things in the GK roster. and I'm wondering how to incorporate those into the release. I forget where I specifically grabbed it from and can't check while at work, but I believe it's one of the "big" files. Are these generally maintained by one person that I should simply email?

I'm having a gak of a time finding the repositories I need actually hosted for the iPhone version. I can find them as downloads, but as I have no way to host them myself, I can't do anything with them. Kind of starting to feel like a wasted purchase.

If you want repository from other people, there are plenty on the net.
If you want to host your own repository, have you tried? http://www.battlescribe.net/help-dataindexer.html

All you need is a Dropbox account.

Adding either the XML or gst.zip link gives me a perpetual 'adding files from repository' screen.

What files should I be linking? Or is there a way to manually add the file structure to an iPhone through explorer?

By adding file, do you mean inputting the repository link? If so then you need to search for "Battlescribe data repository" on Google. There should be one provided by randomhit last time I checked.

But what file do I select? Or do I just add the whole HTML page?

Well, I finally found a repository that worked for the Battlescribe on my pc. Now it's trying to add to the mobile version. Hopefully it works.

edit - Nope. The randomhit 40k repository just sat there trying to add it for 40 minutes. The PC version added it in about 15 seconds. Also tried one provided by rigeld2, which did the same - sat there for half an hour just saying that it was adding data from the repository. Both on the same connection I used on my PC and through 3G.

So is the current consensus that the PC version is fine but on mobile devices it's a bridge too far?

@WanderingMinstrel: There is no such consensus. Battlescribe release version work perfectly in all devices.

edit - apologies

I was doing one key thing wrong. I was hitting Update data without hitting the dirty great '+', so it was infinitely trying to update nothing. It now works.

Just a note if the developers are reading this, you might want to add in a fix where if no repository is actually in the list, it doesn't infinitely try to add one. Especially when theres no cancel button and you need to power the whole device off to get out of the loop.

hey guys, new user here.

I've been using battlescribe for the past however long it's been out and I recently started to get into editing the catalogues, mainly to fix bugs, add variants and adjust them according to the FAQ's that are out.

edit: done adjusting and finalizing the tau roster so it works properly (as much as it can, anyways), so here's a repository. http://lanceglaive.hostoi.com/index.xml
