Thanks gobert!

So I tried to paint some more High Elves, but I just can't find the motivation to crack on with them. Don't know why, but it just isn't there!

Thankfully I have more than enough other models to paint so I decided to paint something that has been in my backlog for a while...some Tomb Kings!

So here is my first few models, the ubiquitous skeleton warriors. A real welcome break from the intricate High Elf models.

I do have plenty more TK models to paint, some GW and some 3rd party but I wasn't going to start with this army project until I had materially finished the High Elves. So this may be the only TKs I paint for a while, we shall see!

Next...I am not sure. I am still not feeling the finishing off the Silver Helms unit. However, my gaming group is discussing a silly apocalypse 40k game when lockdown hopefully ends, so i may be looking to expand my Cult of Lusca or the Star Gods themselves...

Great skellybobs mouldy! The bones are nicely done, are they layered or just dry brushes?

Actually just drybrushed! I wanted something fast on the assumption that I would need to be painting a lot of bones.

Hello!

Another update, and another Tomb King. This time a Lich Priest to keep the skelly boys upright.

I wasn't quite sure how to paint the mummified flesh. In reality, mummies are typically an almost black brown, but that felt like it would look odd despite being realistic and I want the constructs to be more that tone. Therefore I went for a more zombified grey-green. Might be a bit unrealistic but looks more fitting somehow. I love his poor skelly footrest.

And then as I alluded to in an earlier post, I will be swinging the attention of the thread back towards the alliance of Genestealer cult, Brood Brothers and Tyranids that I colloquially call Lusca and Friends (I really need a better name for all this). With lockdowns hopefully coming to an end in a couple of months, we are planning a large Apocalypse game so I am looking to get my forces expanded so that I can bring a suitable retinue of the Sons of Lusca, their Brood Brothers and the Star Gods themselves, Hive Fleet Lusca.

With that in mind, I smashed out an Armoured Sentinel for the cult. This was really fun to paint and reasonably quick too, sadly I don't have any more BB vehicles to paint but I suspect this will get expanded to a full unit of 3.

Hey mate,

lovely coppers on the skellies! I'm a big fan of the grey skintone on the liche as a point of difference to the boneheads and the teal is of course a nice touch of contrast all round.

Sentinel is nice and clean with a great camo scheme too, and the bases are fantastic - really help to pull the minis together.

Keep it up, you'll be in the green in no time!

Great work on the mummy and sentinel, they both look aces! I love the grimy white on the sentinel in particular

So I can feel the urge to paint more High Elves returning! This is good as I really want to get that army playable as soon as possible, without compromising paint quality too much. So, for now, this thread and my painting efforts will focus on two projects: The Lusca Alliance (Hive Fleet Lusca, Sons of Lusca GSC and their devoted Brood Brothers) and the High Elves of Cothique. I'll probably loosely alternate between these two projects, so apologies if one or the other is not of interest.

First up then?

Some fire support for the Hive Fleet:

And then I will be finishing off 5 more GSC Neophytes that have been hanging around for too long.

Don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but I love your carapace design for the 'nids. The orange-edged black is really effective.

Thirding the love for the edges! It gives them a really bold look and stands out nicely against the paler body colors.

Thanks all, much appreciated. The carapace is really simple but I do like the effect it creates!

As mentioned in my last post, I finished off 5 more neophytes for the cult:

This now takes me to 3 units of autogun+specials neophytes. Not quite up to bladed cog levels yet but I am getting there. Here are all 3 units, two with mining lasers and grenade launchers and 1 with seismic cannons and webbers.

As for what to paint next, I'm really not sure! More tyranids? Back to Silver Helms? Some Dire Avengers that have been primed for a while?? We shall see.

Thanks Gwyn!

Right, so while the PVA on the base and primer on the Exocrine dries, I started a project of "restoring" an extremely unloved chimera that was donated to me.

This thing has been badly mistreated, it is covered in pools of dried plastic glue and had been simply built wrong. Here's a view of the top showing the state of it:

First thing I had to do was remove the side tracks and the rear hatch. The sides had been glued on the wrong sides of the chassis, and the hatch and rear undercarriage glued on at an angle to bodge it together and cover any resulting holes. So I had to prize the whole thing apart:

Additionally the heavy flamer on the front was not set into its hole properly due to bits of sprue left on the edges (the whole model is covered in remains of the sprue, I removed as much as I could). This was pulled off, cleaned up and reattached. The two halves of the flamer are not quite aligned but sadly fixing that is beyond my abilties.

Then, as you can see from the photos above, the turret is glued 90degrees round. Sadly this couldn't be pulled apart like a lot of the other joins, so I had to pull out the hacksaw.

Finally, there was the relatively simple job of gluing it back together the right way round!

It's far from perfect, the chassis has been bent and glued together in a not quite right way, so it is a bit uneven and there are a couple of gaps that I need to fill. The one upside is this is going to be a cult chimera, and so I should be able to hide the majority of the damage with weathering: ample rust and weld patches will be included! I can get away with it looking like it has had a bunch of field repairs! A new heavy flamer for the turret is in the post to make sure it is usable on the table.

I'll get the side with white paint splodged on stripped, then gaps will be filled and a coat of primer to see how it looks. I'm hoping it will fit right in with my small brood brothers vehicle contingent.

I also have a lot of High Elves in need of painting but I can't get on with painting them for the life of me..

Awesome work with your blog, love the bright colours of your TKs and the repair job on the chimera looks great. I always like rescuing a sad ebay model, it's like rescuing a dog from a kennel and giving it a good home.

That was one badly built chimera! You seem to have recovered it pretty well, though no doubt the primer will reveal a few more of the previous owners sins. As for the flamer, I wonder if you could file it in to a rounder shape? It is quite an offset so you might want to fill the barrels with milliput or similar? As a cult vehicle it’ll look great a bit beaten up

Really good idea gobert. I hadn't thought about filling it and reshaping it, you're right though that it is horribly aligned. I'll order something to fill it up.

As mentioned in my earlier post, i've been working on an Exocrine, and here it is:

Not my greatest work but I find really big models awkward to paint. Plus, I noticed a couple of mistakes now that it's been photographed...balls.

That's always the way, the camera is the great revealer! It does look great though. I feel like the orange is a bit less bright than some of your other oranges, but that could just be my memory.

Exocrine looks cool, he’s a big old lad by the looks of it.

If you’re ordering stuff for the filling, be warned that Green Stuff doesn’t drill too well. Milliput seems better in that department but is much messier!
