Are tyranids affected by the instant kill of a diresword if in synapse. I ask, because the arguement started in the tactics section and was correctly suggested to be moved here?

I hope to have such a death--lying in triumph upon the broken bodies of those who slew me. |

I read the arguments and it seems the consensus is that it kill outright. Its not instant death as pointed out by the def of ID in the rulebook. Atleast agree to that. As for the leadership check its not for morale its just to see if the creature dies. Its like an armour save but based on LD. What about feeless IC with multi wounds, would they be killed outright? they dont take leadership tests?
Maybe they are not, if they are not then maybe the nids in synapse range are also unaffected. BUT admit your wrong on the instant death thing as its different to killed outright. to be killed outright the weapon does not have to be double toughness whereas with ID it does need to be double toughness

Yeah. It is not 'instant death' so the Synapse immunity doesn't work, any more than being in synapse would save a gaunt from being killed by a heavy bolter shooting at it.

I agree they can be killied outright, if they are inside synapse range though tyranids "automatically pass any Ld based test ... other than psychic tests and those called upon for target selection" so they will not be affected.

Yep, Langley is right. Although tyranids can be killed outright by the diresword, tyranids in synapse range auto-pass Leadership tests. The Eldar rules do say "pass a Leadership test" with a capital "L" so there can't be any question that it's the same kind of test that nids auto-pass.
