I have the original Dawn of War. If I wanted to play expansion armies in multiplayer, do all other players have to have the same expansion packs, or can I use them without it? The thing is, my friends play Mark of Chaos, and I wanted to get Winter Assault next so that I could play Imperial Guard. Also, any tips for multiplayer Guard?

Oops, when I posted Mark of Chaos, I meant Dark Crusade.

To use the other armies in multiplayer you need the cd keys from them. I think if you got Dark Crusade you would be able to play all the armies but IG against someone, whether or not they had the epansions or not. I think it just limits the player, not both since Dark Crusade has them all anyway and you don't need them installed to play multiplayer anyway. In other words you don't need Winter Assault installed to play IG multiplayer, just the CD Key and if your opponent doesn't have Winter Assault you can still use IG.

Seriously? The review I read said that if you only bought Dark Crusade you can only play as Tau/Necron online in multiplayer, but use any faction in-game.
So maybe the answer is I can play as Imperial Guard with Winter Assault, but I can't play against Dark CRusade people until I get that one. I think.

I thought you were talking about online only. Yes, you can play as any in the single player campaign regardless. You only need the CD-Key (not the game installed mind you) to activate the other forces in online multiplayer. If you register DoW with Dark Crusade and your friend registers DoW and WA, they can still use IG against you, but you won't be able to use them. You would be able to use Tau, Necrons, and all the original games armies.

Do other installs of the game have patches to include multiplayer content?
For example, original Dawn of War did not have Necrons or Tau. In order to play against someone who fields Necrons/Tau you would need the code and graphics on your own machine for the Tau and Necrons to appear. So do you patch the older content or is it strictly an install thing?

Dark Crusade is a stand alone game. You can't play DoW against DC online. To play against someone who has DC you would need to get DC. I guess I misunderstood what you were asking. Now if you get DC to play against your friend you could put the CD-Key from DoW in when it asks for it (first time you start it I think) and be able to play all the original armies in multiplayer as well as Tau/Necrons. Still, both you and your friend would need the same game. DoW -> DoW or DC -> DCDC is a reasonable price and the campaign is fun. All the additional units help to. Just go get it

Yeah, the way the armies work differs from game to game. You're best off playing Dark Crusade online against other people, as that would give you the full range of races and units for each race. You will need the CD keys from DoW and WA to play all seven races, though.

Still, both you and your friend would need the same game. I have the codes and have installed DC but it hasn't asked me for them. Is there a way to get it to ask you again?

If you already have DoW, and Winter Assault installed, it will not ask you for the cdkeys, as you have already entered them
