Hi all, im new to the forum, so i hope i got the right place. So being a long time chaos marine player i have decided to venture into some new territory and make a Latd list. Now as everyone knows the new eldar codex is sure to inspire a ton of new eldar converts. Are there any LaTD players out there that can recommend some good units for dealing with the eldar (particularly the skimmer lists). My unit list to date looks like this. 7x plauge marines (champ w/fist pistol, 2x melta gun, 4x bolter) - rhino with armour, dirge caster and smoke 30x mutants (bloated, boss w/fist, champ in termi armor w/fist or manreaper) 5x traitor guard w/lascannon 10x traitor guard (9x shotgun, 1x flamer) - agitator w/fist &shotgun - champ w/plauge sword, pistol) - chimera w/hull hbolter, pintle stubber, smoke and armor russ - h-bolters in hull and sponsoon - armor The theme of the army is to be nurgle, what can i add to deal with the pointy ears??

More traitors to bump them up to 15 each or a second mutant squad to satify the compulsory requirements of the army.

If you're looking to tool up a list specifically to take down Eldar, you do have some advantages as an LatD player. You could, for example, field a lot of small traitor squads with heavy bolters and/or autocannons. Particularly in games with infiltrate, these should be able to set up criss-crossing fire lanes. Sure, they'll be very fragile, but if they're well dispersed, you should be able to force the Eldar to disperse to deal with them. And meanwhile, they're not the core of your army, so they're expendable. Your tanks also offer a lot of potent tactical options. With the right terrain, a well-placed basilisk will deal serious death, as will a hellhound or two if you can keep it/them alive. Put a russ or two into the mix (to force him to make difficult target priority decisions). Include some fast demons, for assault/counter assault purposes (furies, perhaps). And meanwhile mass a lot of mutants in several large mobs to bog down his small, elite units whenever they emerge/attack/get too close. The key to Eldar strategy is staying in cohesive, mutually-supportive formations and combinations. Your goal is to break up those formations and combinations. The Lost and the Damned excell at disruption.

Dealing with eldar skimmers is simple. Engage them in close combat. They don't get half of their special stuff if they are attack in close combat, and with only one exit hatch, dealing with them isn't all that hard. My advise for you is my advise for everyone, a daemon prince, a blood thirster, and bloodletters. Statured princes destroy skimmers, sure, you need sixes to hit, but with 6 or 7 attacks, you're bound to get 1 or two, and that's really all you need when you get 2D6 armor penetration... same goes with the blood thirster. IT might just be my dice, but bloodletters do this job amazingly as well. Sure, you need 6's to hit and to glance.... but I always get a couple. Throw in some hidden powerfists in units, some cannon fodder, a couple of shooting weapons just in case, and you'll be fine, eldar is nothing to worry about for any army. Heck, just last week I had one 12 man death company destroy two wave serpents, 2 vypers, and one falcon all in one round on the charge. But then again, 4 powerfists rerolling misses, 8 strength 5 guys rerolling misses can do that. But seeing as how you want to be mr. nurgle....... I have no advice for you. Nothing nurgle has is fast and/or strong enough to deal with these things effectivly.

Hmmm, ok well thanks for the advise guys. I could always take a nurgle daemon prince with stature and speed or even flight, i think that the GUO would be too slow to be any good though, which is too bad cause the new FW model is awsome. In my original list i had planned on 2x 20 man mutant squads, 2x 5 man traitors with las cannons, 1x plauge amrine squad w/2melta, 1x sentinal with lascannon, and 2 russes. Sounds like i was partially on the right track, maybe i will take more traitors, and some autocannons, maybe that prince.

The Nurgle Mutants have incredible survivability. I have heard good things about a hidden unclean one. If the DP and Greater Daemon root is a little too overpowered feeling you could do the hidden powerfists amongst mutants. Its not the most efficient way but it is very effective. The 4+ save on guys that are 9 points each is awesome. A boss + powerfist is also a very worth while addition. If you keep the GUO inside an aspiring champion that is leading a group of mutants you could give him a plague sword and watch all the ICs fall to you. Heck, you could kill Carnifexes with ONE swing. Its fluffy as heck but scary since most people dont have enough AP4 and under shots to take you down before you engage melee. Nurgle based LatD is what it can be all about. Awesome basic troops and the power of Imperial Armor. Heavy Bolters are awesome against Eldar, btw. I havent used them but arent sentinals better in squadrons? The lascannon + 5 man traitor is one of the best combos since you can hide them in the back and in cover. Those guys are too darn squishy.
