This discussion came up on another forum and I thought I'd take it here.

What happens when a wraithcannon rolls 6 to wound a Wraithlord, or another model with T6+? I say it suffers instant Death and loses all its wounds. However the other person believed that weapons that cause instant Death must be weapons that have Strength twice the targets Toughness, so the Wraithcannon acts as if it is just strength 2x the opponents toughness. Since it cannot be more than S10, it cannot kill the Wraithlord.

Similarly, Necrons lose their WBB to wounds that have Strength twice their Toughness, NOT to attacks that cause Instant Death, so I think they should get their WBB against wraithcannons, but the other person disagreed.

What say you, dakkadakka?

The first situation is easy. The rules for a wraithcannon (p.46 Codex:Eldar) say that on a role of 6 it inflicts instant death regardless of a models toughness. Goodbye Wraithlord.

The second situation is more annoying. By RAW they get WBB (if what you posted is the precise wording of that rule). Logically they shouldn't but that isn't an issue in a RAW debate.

The Wraithcannon rules very clearly state that the target suffers instant death on a roll of a 6, regardless of Toughness.

This is correct. Nowhere does it suggest that Instant Death has any effect on WBB.
