I have about two dozen space marines from when I was much younger, all painted in a colour scheme I don't like, and with an ugly gloss varnish.  I'd like to be able to use them for something.  Any tips on how best to get rid of the varnish especially?   The models are a mix of pure plastic, pure metal and plastic/metal combo.

Simple Green is a really good paint/varnish remover and won't harm plastics
