I just use photobucket. Save it to your computer then upload it. Alternately try and get the image properties and directly link it.

so, how does dakka go about making monster traps?
I tend no to, but I have lava moats around my base and mining points, as well as an area of lit-up grass. Animals spawn there and can't get out. I see them through a window in my base and go and use them for wool/food/armour/arrows.

Depends on what kind of trap you want? There's five in general. All of them use the game's water physics to push mobs around into position.

Drowning traps, use water physics to push mobs underwater and drown.

Cactus grinders, use water to push mobs into cacti which damage them when they touch it.

Gravity traps, where mobs are pushed out of a high place (or into a low place) and they fall enough distance to die from the damage.

Lava guillotines, which make use of a bug in lava physics and push mobs into a lava guillotine.

Heat traps, which make use of the weird way fire and lava work to damage creatures without actually touching them.

That's why.

These floating freaky ass baby head tentacle monster things shoot fireballs at you if they see you. And they have INSANE sight range. The fireballs can destroy most things in the nether too, though they can't destroy cobblestone, iron doors, etc.

I say go for it. Minecraft is truly a sandbox so in my opinion if its legal by the game engine, go for it. A mob farm is pretty much the only way you're ever going to get enough sulfur to do anything actually fun with TNT. Without one TNT is just a gag block you get once in a while.

How do you get the mobs to go there? I've dug pits and such, but nothing but pigs ever seem to get stuck in there...

For the drowning trap, you just need water to flow into a hole, the water will flow downwards pushing mobs into it, and they'll drown. A 1x1x1 opening in the side of hte bottom will cause any loot to flow out, to be collected. You can make it up to a 2x3x2 hole (a square of four blocks, three deep) or you can have something more complex like the video linked a few pages ago.

The hole can be as small as 1x3x1 (three deep, and a one block square) for everything but spiders.

For the cacti traps, put water down and have it flow into and past cacti, pushing mobs into it, eventually through a small opening (too small for mobs to go through) for collection.

As for lava guillotines and heat traps... that's not my forte. I prefer not to work with either one for traps. Ask Tyyr.

, i just go on PvE missions to get gunpowder and such, ive got a mob trap but nobody ever goes in it, going to build a dark room, but it gona take a while...

No, while the AI can "see" you through the glass it registers as a block between you and them which inhibits their attacking. Seen the same thing in my mob farm. The mobs will see me through the observation windows but they won't attack.

Now that my castle is done I'm going to furnish it and once that's done it's time for Mob Farm Mk II. Going to go with the smaller foot print tower style farm instead of the huge single room.

I need to figure out how to surround my wooden home with a moat style drowning mob trap, which empties out into the second level of my basement. Hrm.

Yeah, that's the main issue. My house is, IIRC, 25x25.

What if you make it deep and remove the lowest block in the entire wall allowing the water to flow in? Or the same but with trenches in the room for it to gather in?

Here's my idea:
TTTTTTTTTTTTT

W = water from moat
S = stone
T = trench used to direct water flow.
-- Because fo the size, there will need to be multiple levels of trenches.
C = center, where the items are collected
L = block with ladder leading up. The down ladder will be on the center block.

Then again, this design has problems with the corners... I might just have to have a series of trenches spiraling from the outside down to the center...
