I was thinking of using trenches as opposed to an entire floor. Trenches are probably the path of least resistance here. The only difference is a slight increase in the depth of the collection point due to water's 7 block flow limit.

I might have a moat which drowns mobs and items flow through, but since I'm a minecraft noob I'll need some screenshots...

That's not an isssue, I'm gonna have a ladder leading down into a mine eventually anyway.

I've figured out a way to make fireproof wooden houses.

The new wooden slab is not flammable and has the same explosion resistance as cobblestone. The wooden and stone slabs are technically the same item with a different damage value applied, and the slabs have a resistance of 30 (same as cobblestone) and not flammable.

Aaaaand I just started a new world and spawned ontop of a dungeon. I dug down one, and all the sand except (weirdly) the sand I was standnig on fell down and suffocated all the zombies inside.

@Melissa:

Your trench is too wide, it'll give the mobs a spot to breath (they need to be trapped under a waterfall for the drowning trap to work, otherwise they can swim). If you want the wide trench you'll need water coming from both inside and outside the trench ring.

You can use a uniform trench size as long as the area inside your trench is less than 14x14 iirc, water will flow for a while along flat ground, and the spill into the trench already directs the flow.

Err, what? That map is merely the collection part. The moat itself will be three wide, like this:

C S W S B
C C W S B

C = Cobblestone Block
S = Water Source Block
W = Flowing Water.
B = Building

The water source blocks next to the building will flow down, making it possible for my moat to capture spiders.

Ol' Blighty

Is this how you do a water trap:

build a ring of 1x2 trenches so you can't jump out (or 2x2 if you have lots of spiders)
put waterfalls 2 blocks above ground level, over the trenches.
have at the bottom of the trenches at one end water, flowing to the other end, and at the other a hole too small for mobs to get through. Items flow through here.
build a hole deep down in the middle to connect to your base (optional).
stand in the middle, monsters come and drown.

as soon as you confirm it or come up with a working one, I'm gonna be building one when I next go on.

I know how to make a water trap. The important part is that I'm making one for a 25x25 building. All the way around. Requires more consideration than a smaller building because of the limitations of water flow.

I really hope they keep making more furniture for the game, even if it has little function. Furnishing my castle with stair blocks masquerading as chairs and solid wood blocks at tables is less than fulfilling. In fact I may leave it mostly empty until they do implement some.

Yeah, I'd like to see a table and some chairs. That's really all they'd need in the end.

That and the ability to color your bed.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I found my first slime.
It was HUGE,and it was on peacefull too.

I just kept hearing "pat,pat,pat,pat".
And thinking,is a pile of gravel going glitchy or something?

btw how do I get their slimeballs from them.

My progress to date:

Some banners for color, all my stuff moved into its final resting place in the castle, and adding netherack bonfires for light. I ringed my flagpole with glowstone and the effect is... underwhelming in the extreme. Maybe it only looks bright in the Nether because of how dark the Nether is.

I need to find a way to light my courtyard that doesn't involve a forest of torches. I like bonfires but that's a lot of them and it might start looking weird. Columns with torches can work but are a little lacking in style. This is a place where lanterns would really be nice to have.

well i did some accidental exploring last night ( i was looking for a cave i had started to explore and i got lost ) and i found a surface lava pool not too far from my base. ill be visiting it frequently to drain it dry for my lava moat.

i expanded my tower a bit and i added a small 2 story look out tower with loads of windows so i can actually see the mobs before i go outside. i also got bored and built a cactus water trap going along both sides of my addition.
the water traps flow into my glass hallway that empties right outside my door.

i finally found the cave i was looking for and it is freaking massive there are atleast 2 rooms that are well over 30x30.
the only down side is that it happens to be under a lake so i have more than once given myself a bath.

i used a spot i have previously mined out as the start of a small base of operations for this cave adventure. its a nice close spot safe from all the baddies that i can use to dump stuff i mine and to restock on torches and mining supplies, i think ill eventually build a mine cart over to it so i can move stuff back and forth easy.

i have been collecting lots of clay lately, i feel a brick train station project might be in order.

I'm so stupidly caught up on the bricks. I have a lot of clay but I have yet to do anything with it because I keep telling myself, "Once you build it that's it."

I mean sheesh, freaking clay is more valuable than diamonds. Who'd have thought?

You should use the lava to build a portal. Lava is practically an endless supply in the Nether.

Just watch out for the Ghasts.

Dude there is plenty of clay out there,I mean I have tons,and I made bricks form it,
Any way the world is alot bigger then you'll ever need. As long as you have a compass to get back then just go on a long walk along the coast untill you find some.

i found a small island covered in it, i mine about half of it and i have quite a few stacks of clay, lately i have been picking it up when i come across it while exploring.

i have been thinking about my failed glass house project. i have already found cactus and sugar but i have not found wheat.. where do you find that at?
