Ok, first real tournament coming up next month.  We've got a couple pretty decent prizes on the table, and all in all, I just really want to dominate this thing.  I know that the Drop Pod list seems to be a general concensus around here as one of the best, so I'm working on a limited version of that (limited due to the fact that I'll only own 2 pods by the time of the tournament).  This list is designed to be fast, mobile, and pack a strong punch.  As of right now, the only thing that truly bothers me is a horde Nid list, which I have pretty good chances of facing.  I've got 182 points left over to play with, and I'm seriously considering going with a heavy bolter dev squad to round it out, to give me a bit more fire power against troop heavy lists.

Tear this thing apart, like I said, I want to win this thing, so give me all the good advise you've got.  1 thing to keep in mind, I do not have any Land Speeder Tornados, so don't bother suggesting to add any of those.  My Fast attack choices are Assualt Squads, Bikes, or Attack Bike squads.  Just about everything else, I can field.

Honestly, go all pods or go home.

I've experimented time and time again with having a normal force and only having like 1 or 2 Tac Squads in Pods to drop in and do some work, but it never comes out right. Whatever you have starting on the table will face the entire opponents army for a turn or two, and what few pods you have will struggle to make up the difference in kills.

Pods are effective when done en mass and in isolation to the rest of the enemies army. You're better off retooling this in a way so that if you pod anything it'd be just a dread or something.

Going pods means going in one of two directions: Tactical Marine heavy, or Terminator Heavy. Both can work, but for the tactical one to work you have to have a LOT podding in. Otherwise they're just not going to make much of a difference.

Would taking 4 Tac Squads with duel Plasma Guns be more effective? I might be able to borrow a couple pods from a friend. I don't think he's using his marines. I'd have to drop the Lascannon squads though, seriously hurting my anti-tank ability.

Search the forums for Papa Nurgle's gladiator-winning pod list and go from there. I can also recomend PVC pods if you need more; cheap and easy.

Also, the lib needs to have a short range and a long range power, not 2 short ranged ones, give him FoTA (especially against nids...)

Wouldn't bother with the assault squad in a pod list

assault cannons! Best place is in either a command squad for the lib or a seperate termie squad.

You've got this weird mauleed marines/pod confusion happening, and you've gotta choose one or the other. They aren't compatible.

cheers

I agree if you go all pods you have plenty of anti -tank. Drop in behind armor and rapid fire plasma's and bolters. Especially with cleanse and purify as your traits.

Look at the top of the list: Cleanse and Purify

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Ok, if I decide to go straight droppods, would it be ok to mix and match plasma and melta's? Like take a couple squads with 1 Plasma and 1 Melta, or should I just stick to 2 Plasmas for the sake of firepower?
