Finally broke down and bought the new Eldar 'dex. Eldar were my very first army way back in 2nd edition (dear god, I feel old!) and I sold most of it off. This list is fairly experimental at the point, as I only have the Harlies, DAs, Guardians, Wave Serpent, 1/2 the Hawks, Asurmen, and the Prisms. I'd really like this to be a fairly balanced, "take-all-comers" army. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think the Death Jesters are worth it in a Harly Squad because you never want to take away your oppurtunity to fleet of foot and if you shoot then you cant fleet, so it will save you some extra points that you can put elsewhere, otherwise it looks like a fun list. I Am a big fan of the Fire Prism and I run 3 myself, there is nothing that they cant kill and when they combine dispersed prism shot they are space marine killers as well as Terminator killers.

I'm not seeing how the various parts of the army will work together; it looks like it could be taken apart piecemeal.

The reapers & pathfinders could form a firebase with the prisms and the avengers/harlequins as counterchargers, but if nobody comes to them, they don't have enough firepower to outshoot anything. The reapers will eventually go down to long-range fire (even in cover), the pathfinders will kill a few things but can be safely ignored for the most part, and the prisms will spend half the game shaken.

The things that cross the board can be dealt with piecemeal. Short-range anti-marine weapons can thin the spiders out and without "withdraw" power they will get bogged and wiped out by larger numbers. Hawks are like candy for heavy bolters, assault cannons, necron destroyers, psycannons, etc (and so are DAs if they try to cross the board). The guardians will kill a couple of marines, then be wiped out by boltguns.

Maybe I'm missing the clever plan that underlies this army though?

I admit Aspect Warriors aren't very fluffy in a Corsair force however they do fit if the Corsairs recently cleared and established a base on a Maiden World. Part of my fluff is that none of the Craftworlds want to send "colonists" to this world, so it's sort of become a "Pirate Haven". The shrines that have been established so far are there largely against the wishes of the Craftworlds and are seen as "slumming it" with the Corsairs, however they realize the importance of securing the Maiden World.

What if I took out the Warp Spiders (I'm not that nuts about them anyway)?

Should I make the "Guardian Squad"/Corsairs an assault squad? Or add a heavy weapon? If so, which one?

Should I take out the Dark Reapers and substitute a Fire Prism?

I think a corsair force would have a handful of aspect warriors.  I remember one of the old BFG appeals and refits tables for the Eldar Corsair fleet had something like "Striking Scorpions" as an upgrade that gave you a bonus to boarding actions.  While I think a corsair list should have a guardian focus, there's ways to explain the use of aspect warriors in the crew.

I'm putting together an Eldar list for my BFG fleet for boarding actions and landing parties.  The core of the army is built around Storm Guardians representing the ship's crew, and rangers/pathfinders representing the wanderers who have sought passage on the ship.  The ship's Bonesinger (farseer) is accompanied by a squad of artisans (Guardian Defenders.)  Their support comes from Warwalkers and Vypers (light and small enough to make it through a webway portal or landed by a Vampire) and a Wraithlord embued with the spirit of ranger lost on the path of a wanderer.

The elite of the list comes from the Striking Scorpions.  I suppose harlequins or fire-dragons would have been a fluffy choice too, but to me the Scorps represented the most seasoned of the ship's crew, equipped for lots of close quarters fighting.  There's also the Pirate Princess (autarch) and her bodyguard of warpspiders.  To me nothing said ship-to-ship like the Princess and her squad blasting through the warp to wreak havoc on the enemy crew. 

I think in Lady Re'lant's crew here, the Dire Avengers, if not as aspect warriors, would represent some of the better equipped pirates of her crew.  The reapers would be a hark back to the days of sails where some members of the crew manned (carried?) light cannons.  I forget the name of these guns, or the weight of the shot (3 lb?,) but the Reapers would fill that role nicely.  Everything else seems to be a nice fit! 

As far as combat effectiveness, I can't really comment.  I've played Guard forever so all those really expensive, really fragile, small units make me nervous.  Asurmen?  For that many points I could get almost two fully loaded guardian squads.  1 hard hitting IC that can't claim objectives or 20+ warm boddies in 2 scoring units?  Also, as mentioned by Flavius Infernus, consider withdraw for those Warspiders as they don't belong in combat.

What if I took out the Warp Spiders (I'm not that nuts about them anyway)?

Should I make the "Guardian Squad"/Corsairs an assault squad? Or add a heavy weapon? If so, which one?

Should I take out the Dark Reapers and substitute a Fire Prism?

I have the storm squads because of fluff and the flamers.  However, someone on warseer pointed out this: would you rather have your guardian have 2 S4 shuricat shots and 2 S3 attacks or 1 S4 shuri-pistol shot and 3 S3 attacks?

Should work pretty well. Maybe trim a hawk and add skyleap to keep them from getting stuck in a losing HtH, and if you find them dying a lot you can swap them out later for something else. The effectiveness of the scorpions and avengers will be limited by their lack of transport.

But otherwise, this army should be fun to play.

I agree with this, and just to add.

I just got done with my first battle tonight.  1000 points against Death Guard themed chaos.  A couple quick findings that are relevant to this discussion. 

• The scorpions are a very hard hitting unit that wiped out 11 plague marines, but I found it was a huge chore getting them across the board and into combat.  I'm debating whether Banshees or Fire Dragons may be a better choice for elites. 
• Guide on the bonesinger was an amazing psychic power, especially when cast on a unit of 2 warwalkers with 2 scatter lasers each.  I think perhaps some spirit stones and doom might make him that much more useful. 
• Autarch with the warp jump pack, fusion gun, power weapon, and banshee mask was awesome.  I used just about every aspect of the model including the haywire grenades.  I think you'll find yours with the hawk wings just as useful.  Consider giving her the fusion gun.  ^_^
• Pathfinders rocked.  I infiltrated them close to an objective in some 4+ cover.  Getting AP1 on a 5 or 6 shredded marines and they were near untouchable with a 2+ cover save.
• Guardians...well, I find it ironic that you can't spell Guardian without Guard.  The Guardians are marginally better, though.  Having enhance as the Warlkock power for the Storm Guardians allowed them to hit first, which meant a few marines didn't get to hit back.  The Guardian Defenders on the other hand had some pretty lackluster shooting; their star cannon was about the only redeeming feature.  I'm considering taking a cue from you and replacing them with Dire Avengers.

@GreenMtVince: How did you put a power weapon (1handed) & a fusion gun (2handed) on your Autarch since it already has a shurpistol (1handed) in its wargear?

I picked Scorpions because they seem to have "flipped" with Howling Banshees since the last dex. Back then, I found Banshees were very hard-hitting, and Scorpions to be lackluster. With 4th dex, Scorpions seem very powerful, resilient, and flexible.

With the Corsairs, I decided to take Embolden because I see they're biggest shortcoming as their low leadership, which could be an issue for an assault squad. I'm also debating whether to equip 2 with flamers (I have and like the older Eldar flamers, and they seem more fluffy) or fusion guns (which are more powerful but kind of boring).

I think exchanging your Defenders for DAs is a good idea. Personally, I've always found DAs to be a much higher asset on the field than Guardians. Also, I'm not nuts about the new imposed addition of a heavy weapon to the Defender squads.

In the army list entry for the autarch, it says: "An Autarch may be given one single handed weapon AND one two-handed weapon." and then lists the options for each.  RAW it doesn't say the one handed weapon purchased there replaces the shuriken pistol, nor does anything about that statement preclude you from purchasing both a one and two handed weapon in addition to the shuriken pistol.  I imagine the FAQ will change that, or at least make it so if you fire the two-handed weapon, you can't switch to the pistol and sword for close combat.

The Scorpions are hard hitting, but so slow compared to everything else that can fleet.  I think I might break down and buy them a ride.  I was trying to avoid the tanks, but it may be inevitable for games above 1000 points. 

Being a guard player of 8 years I look at guardian leadership 8 and say to myself "That's awesome!"  I5 and WS4 from enhance (WS5 on the warlock) made back it's points.  Flamers I think are a better choice for the simple fact that these guys are BS3 anyway.

Well I think this seems tweaked as well as it can be. Thoughts?

Would it be too cheesy to model the DAs using High Elf robed bodies with DA plumed helms and DA ShurCats to represent the DA squad?

Your army is getting better and more refined. I like how you have put effort into developing the character of your army. So it is a double pleasure to help you.

My turn for comments.

Lady Re'lant is fine. Mandiblasters are far better than a Banshee mask. The only things that will out I you are the sorts of things you dont want to get anywhere near. If points are tight (see below) consider dropping the fusion gun its very nice to have a 2+ hit 2+ kill but your lady will have no problem dealing with her targets in close quarters and she does have haywire grenades as standard.

Bonesinger Vervet meets my approval. Singing Spear and one power is all you really need. However I personally think you have the wrong power chosen. You have far too many units worth shooting at. If one is temporarily well protected its simply time to shoot at the rest. Fortune really works with a Seer Council style warlock squad. it wont help your Dark Reapers. That which will shoot you will ignore both your 3+ saves. The Harlequins wont really need the help.
Guide however will be a formidable asset.

The Hanshennen Harlequin troupe has been optimised. The Death Jester adds 'colour', but be prapered NOT to fire his cannon on many games.

Your Striking Scorpions could be a little better. Chainblades and scorpions claw together are a bit of a waste. I can see why you are doing this but you have too many backup roles in the list with the Death Jester and Lady Re'lants backup fusion gun.

Pathfinders. Ok.

Dire Avengers. I am not sure. Yes they are very resilient (probably with Fortune too yes). But its the Maginot line in your list a good opponent will just go around. In all honestly your Corsairs are better served with some more guardians a Bonesinger to cenceal them and a large gun of your choice. Its little less resilient and not so easy to ignore.

Your brave pirates will have to advance pretty much alone, with some standoff support with Swooping Hawks and only the Harlequins to help up close, as they wont be seen the Pirates will take all the double taps. This squad is pretty much unsurvivable. Now some Pirates on foot as a counterassault would work but assaulting Pirates are of no value.

Swooping Hawks look magnificent but you dont need so many. Also in my opinion skyleap doesnt work so well. Your Hawks may leave on schedule, but will they return when and where needed? Also ten angels dancing on one template is a little too risky. Sunrifle is nice though, mine looks like a Web of Skulls.

Tell us whether two Fire Prisms work as well as they look on paper. What you need are spirit stones to backup your holofield. a Holofield is less valuable on its own as a stunned Fire Prism is a dead Fire Prism next turn.

I prefer Dark Reaper squads of four for morale purposes. Taking an exarch is a good return at 12pts for Bs5, crack shot is less valuable. Yes the exarch ignores cover saves, but the squad doesnt, and its the squads firepower that really matters. I perefer an exarch with missile launcher and Fast Shot, doubling rate of fire for only 20pts, or just standard issue equipment. Dark Reapers are so valuied for their role that your exarch your have in mind the squads target, not his own.

A Fire Prism with holo-field and spirit stones is 160 points, not 155 (115 + 35 + 10 = 160).

Two other things: (1) You might want to consider giving your Autarch a fusion gun to make use of BS6, and (2) the hawks really do need skyleap, lest they get stuck in hand-to-hand combat.

No Jetbikes or Vypers in your pirate army?

Fluff wise I think vypers would be great, though they are very fragile.

Just me playing around with a 1000 pt list based on what you've listed so far, and I certainly won't be offended if you don't take anything away from it, but if you do awesome, just had some fun making it. Went with the pirate idea and eliminated the aspects and replaced with Harlequins who can basically double as a small FD squad when the exarch is included with the fusion gun as well as being very capable in CC. Harlequins are knows for helping all over, a pirate princess could certainly get the attention of a few and they hold a very different attitude than the Aspect Shrines. The Falcon will be tough enough to get them wherever you need them, either CC help, or anti armor, somewhat of a 'do anything' squad. It certainly gives you a decent backbone force that is variable. Would love to hear what you think about it.
