How bog are they?  And how many eldar live on them?  Cuz you dont hear of to many different craftworlds.  Are those just the most popular ones or are there tons of them?

There are enough to support the craftworld specific army list and however many are woven from whole cloth for gamers to create for their own armies.

Fluff-wise, there hasn't been a count I've seen, but I'd say easily under 50, probably somewhere around 20 tops. But that's just my opinion.

Then there's the various Eldar colonies and piratical bases you have to take into account.

Right behind you

As to the size, there was an old board game gw released called Doom of the Eldar in which you played as the Iyanden craftworld and tried to survive the Tyranid onslaught. In that game most of the board itself was the craftworld. If the scale is the same as BFG, than a craftworld is like 20x the size of an Emperor Class Battleship. Of couse some craftworlds are bigger than others.

think of the death star in size.

when the homeworlds died the remaining families fled to the craft worlds which were huge then, and then enlarged them.

so freakin big.

as fir as numbers the ones with rules are the well known ones, they never put  a number to them. so as many as are needed by the players.

Since Craftworlds are made from Wraithbone I can imagine that their size would vary between Craftworld.

Take a look at this thread of the Anargo Sector Project: http://anargo-sector.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=206

Would be helpful I think!

I always thought there were at least a thousand craftworlds, if not a lot more. Each of these is probably the hub of an Eldar community numbering in the hundreds of millions to billions. If this seems like a lot of Eldar, remember that they are portrayed as one of the major alien races of the 40K galaxy and so cannot be that few in number. The number of Imperial worlds and their populations add up to a colossal number of humans (we're talking in the quintillions here I think). Iyanden was powerful enough to fight to the death with a Tyranid Hive Fleet that it took the resources of much of the southern Ultima Segmentum to destroy one of equivalent size.

...some craftworlds are bigger than others.

I believe Farseer Morrissey once said that as well.

Over there... no, wait, AARGH!

I don't think there are that many craftworlds. However, the old 2nd Edition Codex Imperialis (old school, I kow!) says no-one knows exactly how many. However, I do think that each one would hold an awful lot of Eldar. After the obvious ones (Iyanden, Ulthwe etc.) it then goes on to list "the doomed Craftworld of Meros, and the legendary lost Craftword of Ctho." Also mentioned is this: "Most strange of all is the Craftworld of Dorhai, which refuses to deal with other craftworlds at all, believeing themselves the only untainted survivors of the fall and maintaining that the other Craftworlds are infested with the seeds of Chaos."
Hope that helps!
