So I play IG and my friend who I frequently play against plays a Zillanids list.  My question is if one of his hive tryrants ties up a squad of infantry can I not shoot at his giant creature.  Now I know the rules about firing into melee but I know that a vehicle being assualted can still be fired upon if a LoS can be drawn.  My logic is that if some gigantic creature is stepping on and malling your comrades that having only the options of running or charging yourself into a sucicide melee with it is stupid.  If they are worried about shooting their comrades while aiming at a couple story sized building, then they shouldn't be shooting guns in the first place.  Anyway, so does it work the same way as normal melee or can you still target the MCs with guns?

You cannot shoot into that melee. The reason you can shoot at the vehicle is because the vehicle is not tied up in a melee combat. Of course, the exception to this would be dreadnoughts.

You do realize how useless monstrous creatures would be if you could tie them up with a cheap unit of conscripts and fire lascannons into the melee, right?

Many things seem to make sense from a real world logic perspective that don?t work from a game rules perspective, and sometimes there are good reasons behind it.

Hell if I could tie up MCs in cc and then still shoot them I'd start fielding 9 Broadsides and 50 Kroot.

Haha yeah, I suppose that helps the game work... still pisses me off when the winged tryant jumps my squads and i can't do much to it anymore.  I also got another question that is off topic but maybe it'll get an answer.  My heroic senior officer has a stat line with 3 attacks.  Now it's assumed he has a close combat weapon, but if I buy him a 2 handed weapon will his attacks in CC go down to 2?  Or a better question, if I keep his CCW does he now get 4 attacks?

HSO's have a base Attack rating of 3. The Lasgun and Chainsword that he comes with gives him an additional attack for a total of 4. Replacing those weapons with something two-handed, like a Bolter, removes the attack bonus, returning his total close combat attacks to the base value of 3.

On a lighter note, I wouldn't be concerned about the extra attack. One extra gribbly punch at Strength 3 has never been worth it - I'm just too lazy to convert my JO with a Bolter.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
