How do you implement Torrent of Fire? This post is for any and all armies. Let us know how you use the torrent of fire rule, and what you think is the best way to use it for your army. Here are some things that I've seen: Guided Dire Avengers with Stormblade against a Doomed unit Sisters of Battle and Divine Guidance > Scatter Laser Warwalkers Joe Schmoe Tactical Marines (it was against a small squad) My thinking is that you can potentially use this with any rank and file troops Thoughts?

Sounds good! I never thought about the hellhound, although I did think about a chimera
Heavy Bolter, Multilaser, Heavy Stubber
which puts out a good amount of shots.
Also, to those not familiar, torrent of fire can be found on page 26.
Likewise for combat, torrent of blows can be found on page 41

I use those Chimeras HB Dev Squads, Destructors, and Tornado squadrons are good for it too. Torrent of fire is GREAT against Tyranid warriors too

Yes, it can. It's not hidden enough to hide from Torrent of Fire.

The one thing thats really important to remember is to thin down the squads you are trying to use the Torrent against with "harder hitting" stuff. If there are ten marines, a few missile launchers can even the odds of getting a torrent with your other units.

They are good, but i wouldnt say undisputed. Eldar are pretty good when combined with doom and guide and such.... but what about ORKS!?!?! massive amounts of big shootas really come into their own

20 Orks (160pts, same cost as stealths above): Not rapid firing: 43% chance of 4+ wounds 23% chance of 5+ wounds 10% chance of 6+ wounds Of course when rapid firing these odds change dramatically, to 92%, 82%, and 68%. 10 Fire Warriors on the other hand, only 100pts: 54%, 94% 4+ 32%, 85% 5+ 18%, 70% 6+

For those of us who did not take statistics...or cut the class all the time....what does the 8^% chance of 4+ wounds mean etc etc in relation to the squads? Does this take in to account the number of models shooting vs the defenders?

If you look at Olainari's posts, he's specifying how many models are firing in each projection.

There's no reference to Torrent of Blows on p.41 and I've just re-read each section there to look for a related ruling. Is this term one that has been arrived at by consensus and/or YDMC debate, or extrapolated in some similar way? Thanks.

pg 41, halfway through the "Armor Saves" first paragraph
"If a unit takes enough wounding hits in one Initiative step (ie, after all initiative 4 attacks are resolved) to cause one or more wounds on every engaged model, the attacking player nominates one engaged model to make his first save. After this, all other saving throws are made normally."

It's hard to find in the rulebook because its not actaully called the "TORRENT OF FIRE" rule, its just a rule thats in the armor saves section that relates to wounds and armor saves. It has been "coined" the Torrent of Fire rule in popular speech only.

I could be wrong but you are supposed to resolve template hits first and one at a time. Meaning that to get that torrent with a hellhound the template would have to take out all but 2 models in the unit before the heavy bolter fired.
