What's the best overall unit in the game? and why?

Brotherhood of Blood

Falcon. Durability, safe transport, and ability to go 24' + inches to claim or contest objectives. Second is the Hammer Head for some of  the same reasons.

For non-vehicles, I'll take one of the following:

Flying Hive Tyrant (2xScyTals, Implant Attack, Glands(Init), Glands (WS), Toxic Miasma, and either Warp Field or Psychic Scream. Fast and killy. Only thing it can't take is, uh, skimmer tanks

Canoness fully loaded with jump pack, 2+ save, anti-instakill thong, blessed weapon, inferno pistol, free act of faith and book of
unmodified LD - she's as hard to kill as a skimmer tank (2+ invulnerable at will, just about) and can lock down big units. She can bust tanks from behind with the pistol or tarpit a bunch of MEQs and kill 1-2 per turn (S5 powerweapon). She adds a total of 4 faith to your army (2 for being there, 2 when she buys it)

Statured Daemon Prince with D-speed, D-str, D-mut, D-aura, Dreadaxe, Furious Charge, Mark of Khorne/Nurgle/Slaanesh. Ability to ignore all saves makes this very scary to characters, can match initiative with just about anything (especially MkS princes) and the speed lets you waltz through his lines with aplomb.

A unit of X-men.

Or the Avengers.

Or maybe the Justice League.

There you go using your ?common sense? again.

Best unit is a full squad of Warp Spiders....jump 12, fire 2 STR 6 shots at 12 inches with the Exarch being able to fire 4 shots or 1 at AP 1 (or is it 2).....they are a BITCH to deal with...

Best character model is a Grey Knights Grand Master with some pimp wargear.  Str 6 Nemesis Force weapon FTW!!!  You also give him Grimoire of True names and Sacred incense and not many Demons can stand after he smokes them with his leadership test to kill instantly.

And best vehicle has got to be the monolith...hands down.

So efficient for his cost.

Obliterators. They are the swiss army knives of 40k and they only cost 10 points more than a Termi w/ AssCannon.

And that is why we hates them...

haha true so true.

there are lots of really great models in the game, some require special settings to use properly (cluxus assasin +grey knights) but they are also usually offset by high points costs(nightbringer) or limited numbers(obliterators). what may be good for one player may be kinda meh for another

Actually the subject is best unit in 40k, not favorite body parts. But thanks for sharing.

Can't chaos veterans theoretically have an infinitely large unit, depending on the point size of the overall army, or am I completely making that up? I think they win by default.

A drop podding Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannon and Heavy Flamer is one of my favorites.

For me it would have to be the Guard Infantry Platoon. Can go from Comd with 2 to 5 squads and options to deal with most anything. For the points, upgrades and traits available, they can shoot/hack it out with a slew of things.

It is the best unit in 40k.  Usually around Turn 4 I like to drop trou and deep strike that bad boy right in the middle of my opponent's army.  After that it's all over.  Yeah, they usually tank me on comp and sports, but whatever - you don't bring a knife to a gunfight!

Vanilla space marine tactical squad. For the points, they can beat anything else in the game.

10 sisters with melta and heavy flamer in a Rhino are pretty near the top, if we're now talking point-efficiency. Adding a VSS with Brazier adds points but also allows Divine Guidance...

Seraphim- faith, jump packs, flamers/inferno pistols, VSS with unmodified LD and eviscerator and HIT and RUN. Back when I still played sisters they would pretty much win my games for me.

I concur on the Death Company call.  How many other units can siphon men off from loser squads, turn them into jump pack wearing, hard to kill, frothing maniacs, with free-ish power fists all for the price of a Chaplain.  They are hands down the most ridiculous unit in the game.  Thank god for ordinance.

As a BA player myself, I am contractually obligated to say DC.

I have to say, I love Strangelooper's quote. Particularily in this thread.

Yes.   And they are horribly underestimated .
