I have something of a reverse army list request. I have a game coming up tomorrow I wanted to play in, and I figured I'd bring my Daemonhunters in mostly because I have them handy over winter break.

I'm not too good with army lists, so I'm wondering if I couldn't get help from you guys assembling a decent list out of the models I presently have. I imagine my opponents will be playing with varying points lists, something around either 750, 1000, or 1,500, depending on who shows up. My common opponents are Tau, Marines, and Chaos, though sometimes Necrons show up as well.

Here's what my army is comprised of at the moment:

Inquisitorial Storm Troopers

+ 22 Hellgun Troopers
+ 4 Meltagun Troopers
+ 2 Plasma Troopers
+ 3 Grenade Launcher Troopers
+ 3 Flamer Troopers
+ 3 Veteran Sergeants.

Inquisitorial Agents
+ Inquisitor or Inquisitor Lord conversion, based upon Coteaz. Psyber-eagle has been replaced by a combiweapon that could pass as a Psycannon for WYSIWYG rules. Also armed with a daemonhammer, though it does not have to be explicitly used as such.
+ A lot of Inquisitorial agents - I have enough generic 'priest' and 'preacher' models that I can easily use as Mystics, Seers, what have you. I can work with basically whatever retinues that come up, short of some limitations on Gun Servitors, as I only seem to have one Melta servitor.

Grey Knight Marines
+ 5 Grey Knights with Stormbolter and Halberds
+ 1 Psycannon Marine
+ 1 Incinerator Marine

Grey Knight Terminators
+ 1 Converted Brother-Captain or Grand Master with Psycannon and Force Weapon
+ 2 Grey Knight Terminators w/ Psycannons and Force Weapons (The arms can be swapped for standard stormbolters if needed)
+ 3 Grey Knight Terminators w/ Stormbolters and Force Weapons
+ 1 Model of Brother-Captain Stern

Sisters of Battle
+ 5 Seraphims with the standard dual Bolt Pistols

Dreadnoughts
+ Two dreadnought bodies
+ Four dreadnought arms total: Lascannon, Missile Launcher, Assault Cannon, and Close Combat arm. Meaning, if one dread takes the lascannon and ML, the other will be stuck with Assault Cannon and CC arm if I choose to use it.

Vehicles
+ Two Rhinos - not fully assembled, so I can paint their interiors, but their shells have been assembled enough that I imagine my opponents would let me field them.

From this list, I want to try and create a decent army aiming at around 1,000 points, I guess. I may be approached by larger or smaller games, but I think 1,000 is a good general starting point.

I would really, really appreciate any help with this, as I'm not 100% sure I know what units to use and take advantage of. The army started with an Inquisitorial theme, but I've started to shift towards collecting Grey Knights slowly.

Well, I played a little on Army Builder and came up with the following:

HQ:
Grand Master w/retinue; psycannon

Elite:
Inquisitor w/psycannon, mystic, heirophant, acolyte in PA, hood, emperor's tarot, PA
GK Termie Squad: psycannon

Troops:

6 ST w/vet (TH, Telehomer), 2 plasma, Factory Rhino
6 ST w/vet (TH, telehomer), 2 melta, Factory Rhino

FA:
5 Grey Knights; psycannon

HS:
Dread w/ML/TLLC--EA/smoke
Dread w/AC/DCCW/incinerator, EA/smoke

That gets you to ~1400 (mind you, I've put in very few frills, no psychics or anything, and gave the inq. a smallish retinue. Add some HB servitors and you're starting to have something). Losing the dreads and two STs gets you to 1118-ish. So you could take this force and easily go up to 1500 or down to 1000 pretty easily.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: If you've got some drop pod models (or someone can spot you), I'd put those dreads in pods as well.

Syr8766:

Thanks a lot for your recommendations, I really appreciate the help.

I'd love to put some stuff in drop pods, but Daemonhunters can't use them as far as I know.

Also: I don't mind losing the dreads, but if I lost both IST squads wouldn't I not have enough for the basic force organization chart in troops?

If you've got the inquisitor w/ a hood, it really needs to be a Inq. Lord.  For the extra 25pts it will make the hood useful.

Inq. w/priest is LD 9, so the hood's not a complete waste (any more so than a 2 wound librarian). The hood can go, however; really, the Inq is there because a) you have the model and b) Emperor's Tarot. He could be nekkid and in the back at that point. Also consider a null rod (nullifies psychic powers against the Inq. & retinue), but only if you don't want to give him psychic powers himself. Having said that, you've got enough points to make him a lord @ 1500.

I meant losing two actual ST models, reducing the squads to 5 each. That's all.

Re/drop pods--will the event be allowing Forgeworld? 'cause I think there are DP rules from IA for DH...Even without them, though.

Edit: good luck and let us know how you do!
