Feel free to visit the Army List section of the forums. If you look around there you can find lists you can use to base your army on - or at least see what people feel is most effective.

A khornate lord can be a MEQ butcher. A lord with M of K, Bererker glaive, Rage of Khorne, daemonic mutation, daemonic strength and daemonic speed is a monster in power armour. Thats 9 st5 power weapon attacks, 1-3 attacks more on the charge as well as a 4+ inv save. He also rages automatically each turn and charges 12 as cavalry. He tops out at 155 which is pretty cheap for a chaos lord. The drawbacks are he can't join any unit or have any followers. Obviously he'll take plenty of fire but it will divert attention from berserker units and once he's in it watch him go leatherface on anything that isn't armour. I've never used this myself, as I don't like an hq slogging up on his own. I usually use a moderately tooled Lt. leading a unit of berserkers and/or another lightly tooled Lt. on a bike leading a small bike unit. A daemon prince has the same drawbacks the tooled lord does, only can can lead units and followers. Thisters are very kool. I see them as more of a fire magnet to protect your serkers, and a great tank smasher that can stalemate most units and if lucky wipe them out ina couple turns. If you're going vanilla chaos the tooled lord is the only one above that can't be used. Hope that was helpful. Good hunting!

Actually he won't take any fire since you didn't give him stature he is still a IC, and can't be shot it if he is not the closest model. . .

From what I have seen at tourney's in my area, Khorne is very common and not bad, Nurgle is dangerous!!!, and Slaanesh is also effective however much of it delves into proper unit combinations. . .

When playing Nurgle, Plague Swords belong on all aspiring champions, along with Nurgles Rot, Nurgles Infestation, and Blight Grenades. While exspencive these make the units hell in hand to hand where you want to be.

Noise Marines, are great but don't bother with the blast master uprade to vehicle weapons, also you will want to have access to the demons for counter charge.

Khorne is common because its simple and effective but dear god do I find it boring. . .

My main issue with Khorne is that with the exception of Bikers, Daemon Princes, and other special movement types, the army can be led around by the nose, getting shot to pieces.  I like a cheapy squad of deep striking storm troopers to land behind them and make them all run backwards.  But Bloodthirsters are scary.... scary indeed.

The 21st century will have a number of great cities. You’ll choose between cities of great population density and those that are like series of islands in the forest. - Bernard Tschumi
