Really simple list, based on an old concept and list.  The core if the list, the wraithguard and wraithlords are essentially fixed if you're trying to run maximize their field appearance, which only leaves you with 302 points to play with and give the army any unique "flavor" beyond that of simply being Iyanden.

I chose Yriel because he closely follows the Iyanden theme, but more importantly for his price is an extremely effective choice to fill the otherwise empty void of Indpendent Character support for the list. He could be forgone in favor or a less expensive HQ choice, like a farseer, but I think he or another pheonix lord is necessary. An iyanden player can always count on his wraithlords getting shot at extensively, and without some strong IC presence, a simple chaos lord or like SM leader with a powerfist could eat a whole army of wraithguard.

With that set not many points are left to play with, and it was between Striking Scorpions or Swooping Hawks for me. The biggest easily forseeable problem for a slow Iyanden army like this is swarm armies - bugs or orks - who can simply field more models than the army can handle. A single squad of Scorpions or Hawks isn't going to solve this problem, but it can certainly help deal with it.
I chose the hawks for the maneuverability, ordenance on arrival, and high rate of fire.

Obviously theres not alot of room for customization if I want to field all 30 wraithguard and 3 WLs, so this post is asking for more than just advice on the other 302 points.

I haven't been privvy alot of discussion about Iyanden strategy since the re-release of the new Eldar Codex, so general commentary on their viabilty within the new list is welcomed.

Any constructive input is appreciated,
Zak

If you want to play Swooping Hawks you really need an exarch with SkyLeap, for the Yo-Yo bombing runs. Intercept is optionl, since you already have high anti tank potential. Put them down to 5 and give sunrifle to the exarch.

I'd just hack the hawks to get some long range support: I'd put EML+BL on at least one WL, and SC+SL on the others.

If your wraithlords have heavier weapons, then you won't need the hawks for anti-tank. The nice thing about the ML/BL combo is that it gets the same marine-killing power as a starcannon, but can also threaten vehicles. Wraithlords are slow, so they benefit greatly from the longer range of the EML.

Wraithguard are tough, but again very slow, which lets opponents concentrate fire on them. Low body count means every casualty hurts--and they have to come out into the open if you want to accomplish anything with them. That's why they need fortune--not for the reroll on their conceal save, which is nice but not vital--but for the reroll on their *armor* save, which makes their save actually better than the 2+ that terminators get. I have seen wraithguard units with fortune work successfully.

I played against an army similar to this one, so I have a few pointers for you. First, heavy weapons on those wraithlords are a must. At the very least put an EML on there, because it will do a good deal of damage for its cost. Second, fortune does make a big difference on those conceal saves. If I were you I would drop to 2 wraithguard units, and use the points for some psychic support and heavy weapons on the lords. You wont have much mobility in this list, so make sure that you have some guns that can reach out and cause problems.

The only advice I can give to this is that if you are facing a Necron list and your set on your hawks, take intercept.

It's a must in that much up.
