So I've been talking about them for ages and now I've finally started work on my Death Korp Army. First up the command squad and my currently work in progress Commissar.

This fellas made out of a mix of krieg components and some other bits and peices.

First of all heres the torso.

This is from a Grenadier and a normal Krieg Trooper.

The head was the most tricky bit and the most crucial in getting the character of the Commissar right. I was going for an image that was instantly recognisable but also subtle and not too over the top. Definatley I knew that I had to include the great skull mask from the grenadiers, but the hat was a more tricky question. I wrestled with the idea of giving him some kind of helmet for awhile but decided i really needed a cap as it was the commissar trademark.

Next up was a case of carving the head and neck joint so it fitted nicely to the chopped up torso. Lots of dry runs later and some careful green stuffing gave me this.

Nearly there but not quite, had to work out a good hose and rebreather unit, I took the back mounted Grenadier rebreather and mounted it on the hip.

So here it is at the current stage, next to the Junior Officer....

Hope you enjoy this and any feedback is most welcome.

EDIT**** Man WTF? I've tried 3 different ways to put these pictures in but no joy... whats up with that? I'd be most grateful if someone could point out the right way and I'll fix it up. Cheers

When you post a thread (or make a reply) and the editor window comes up, look for the little symbol above the text entry window that looks like a little picture of a sun rising over some mountains. That is the 'insert picture' button. click on it and enter the web address where it prompts you to and voila! you'll see your pics.

Hi Guys

Thanks for sorting out those pics for me. Yeah I tried using the insert/edit image button and when i typed in the address it didn't work. A box came up saying "please type URL".

I tried all of the options on the edit pic pop up and couldn't get any of them to sort it out. So what exactly do you have to type there? Just the web address from the photobucket account? You'll have to excuse my ignorance ")

EDIT** Actually I just edited my original post and played around with it. It's the first tab and enter the web address isn't it? I think i tried to use the upload tab and the last one as well. I think I get it now. I'll try again in a minute.

So heres some more... Finally got the pics to work.

Heres the back of the commissar with backpack and gear.

The next question of course is what to do with the arms... Sadly FW only give you exactly 10 arms in the Krieg sprues. So no alternate arms for other posing etc. I tried to use plastic GW arms but the are horribly out of proportion to the FW ones and way too big. The only spare arms i have are the ones from the Krieg Tank Commander. Probably I'll use the hand thats up signaling and then get another forgeworld kit that has a nice resin powerfist. Maybe the Elysian command squad. It's a real nuisance that they don't sell components seperately, but I can always use the elysians as colour tests and guinea pigs for this new Mr Resin Primer that i have.

I've also actually been looking at the GW catalogue, the Cadian officer powerfist is actually quite a nice size, not too big and with a bit of work should go nicely. Add in Krieg Shoulder pads and redo the tank commander arm to hold a bolt pistol and I think it'll be fine. It will also be a lot cheaper than buying another FW squad just for the components.

Cut the arms and reposition them as desired. Once you get a good "pose", use greenstuff to patch the cut.

Cheers Breotan, I was planning to give that a go with the Krieg tank commander binocular arm. He has his hand in a fist gripping the binocular, so it could be easyily modified to be holding a sword or pistol handle.

Most likely I'll chop the Metal Cadian Powerfist at the elbow, use part of the Krieg spare arm I have and then add Krieg style shoulder pads. The biggest issue would have been the hands, as I don't have any "gripping" hands holding weapons. Although with a little green stuff this shouldn't be an issue.

Very nice conversion - 'simple', unobtrusive and with a great result. Looking forward to what you do with arms, pity that FW isn't making it easy.

I agree with Boos Salvage, the simpleness of this conversion make it oh so better.

So he's finally finished, after playing around with different arm options I decided to stick with Power fits and Bolt pistol.

And heres the power fist detail with FW brass etch imperial eagle.

Hoped you liked the end result, I'll post pics of the full command squad soon.

May I recommend you use the extend arm for the Commissar instead of the bent one currently holding the bolter? Having both arms bent along with the legs gives the impression that he's trying to do the "Hulk Hogan" yell or drop a brownie when he thinks nobody is watching. I'd slap on an extra ammo pouche or two as well.

Yeah.... I must admit I never saw it like that.

The main problem at the moment is a distinct lack of Kreig arms, and due to the expense of the models I'm reluctant to waste any components. Admitably this isn't my favorite arm choice but I'm not going to sacrifice a Tank commander or other trooper in the process.

I might have some more bits knocking around though and will give it a shot. I was actually considering an extended arm holding a chainsword.

I'll do some variations and post them up.

Looks good....stance looks kind of strange...but its better than I can do so....

What about...turning the guys head so hes looking to the left and his arm to the left like hes sighting in on an enemy running down a length of trench twords him??
YOu could leave his P-fist how it is....

Regardless good work, if you get sick of looking at them mail them to my house!
