Hi guys, just had some ideas on expanding my Iron Warriors display force (read "blatantly cheesy" here). The next two conversion additions my brain has concocted are to build them as walking devastating tanks. 1 a Vindicator, 1 a Basilisk, both quadraped Metal Gear solid style, but not using defiler parts to separate the designs. I have some rough ideas which I can't put into words, or paper coz my drawing is crap, but I have em.... Looking for some thoughts and ideas from other like yerselves to help me realise my dream of a CHEEZY ARMY OF DOOM THAT WALKS...

I found some nice lil pics for this project while I was trying to find PENITENT ENGINE stuff... no worries, still usefull!! Not bad, apparently by a mob called Dreamforge....sort of idea I was thinking of anyways! And this one is done by a guy called Tom over on TheWarp, which I am definitly liking some of the ideas of.... Any thoughts on application?

The second one is more suitable for Necrons, imho, than Tau, but whatever. I like the idea in the first one, but it seems a little "compact" to actually carry the people inside that the standard kit makes room for. It looks more like a robot. In fact, both of them look more like robots.
Those Tau are wearing SM jet packs, aren't they?

The Black Widow, minus the assault cannons, would be great as a walking Basilisk or Vindi. Only problem is getting your hands on a kit as that site looks dead (product out of stock, hasn't been updated in over two years, forum traffic dead for nearly a year, etc..). I'm pretty sure the guy that runs (ran?) Dreamforge was was cold cocked pretty hard by GW's legal thugs after having spend considerable time and money creating some some similar, yet distinct, Titans but couldn't afford to mount a legal defense, which ultimately burned him out on the hobby (IIRC).
That said, the turret could easily be scratch built from a British Challenger I tank kit and do-dads, but the quad legs... I dunno. You seem pretty handy with plasticard and other gubbins, why not scratch build them? The legs, that is. Perhaps build one and then resin cast the rest. Alternately, what about leaving the Basilisk as an open-toped tracked platform, since I don't think you can take an armored compartment, but using the tank chassis from the Challenger (you could use a modified GW earthshaker to keep it "GW")?

Yeah, these are just ideas. I'm gonna be scratchbuilding/converting a lot of stuff. The Tau one, I certainly agree that it looks more Necron than Tau, but the model is definitely very cool. I've been trying to register on the site so I can ask him what bits he's used...coz I really like the way the leg assemblies are at the base of the main body. I do really like the rest of the model too but it's not the right theme....maybe slaaneshi designs would work but I'm not doing that typeof theme.

you hate the defiler, or are just trying to save money? I think the defiler kit would be a great basis to make either of those walkers, and the result would look very original but still fit the GW IW look.

Greydeath from WorkInProgress has a reference on his site. The Dreamforge design is really really huge - a tau Broadside comes up to the first knuckle on the leg if it's standing beside it!!! I won't be making it that big As to the design, it's not that I don't like the defiler but it's a combination of - I want the two to look a bit more individual to add to the Chaos effect, and I don't want to buy two more defiler kits.

What is the second one? It looks like some sort of Star Wars toy, but I can't place it.
