So has SST gone belly up?  It seemed to get some buzz for a little while and now nada.

Funny that you choose to make this post about a day after MGP released the SST: Evolution previews!

In S&P magazine, they have pics of many of the first wave of pre-paints and stats for 2 units for all FOUR armies that will be released initially.  Yes, there won't be 2.5 armies at release like before, there will be FOUR full armies including the Forth!  The releases are still a few months away, and the main rulebook (advanced rules) won't likely come out until the second half of the year, but the good news is that everyone now has the stats and the rules to start playing SST:Evo, so there's no need to feel like the game is unsupported or you're playing with obselete rules because now you have everything you need.

I disagree the game is dead, after the utter garbage that was battlefield evolutions models and rule set, and the crappola that was the book, I doubt that the game will even be fun to play anymore, I have tried out the previews rules and am extremely unhappy with them. The Skinnie force has lost everything that made them good, the bugs have been made nearly unstoppable, oh yeah and the price of the models is ridiculous they will be using that same garbage rubberized plastic crap they used on Battlefield Evolution.

My money is now going to Infinity, which has a much better rule set and the models are much nicer.

You disagree the game is dead? Or, you disagree, the game is dead?

I have seen a few recent posts on the Mongoose SST forum from players who are using the new rules. I'm not sure I like what I'm reading, but I will wait until I have the actual SST: Evo rules in my hands before I make a final call. In my area, though, it's dead. No one is playing, we were all waiting on the new rules. Now that it has been soooooo long, I am not sure that the new rules will rekindle local interest. And without local interest, there's no reason for me to keep paying, either.

AT-43 only has a few players, but more are joining in, and their prepaints are pretty damn good... Mongoose, the bar has been raised. Your BF: Evo figures are pretty bad, and now your SST: Evo prepaints are going to be compared to Rackham's.

Mongoose is the company more likely to shoot themselves in the foot than GW. Really inconsistent minis, terrible and erratic release schedule...it doesn't matter how good the rules are if they're going to keep vacillating between SST and BFE, then whether they're going all prepainted or not, etc.

In the meantime, I picked up a box of grizzlies and a TAC UAV for 70% off at a store clearance sale. Might go back and pick up some other models (like the walkers) that are easy to use as other things.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

SST is toast. went to clearance in the few places in Md that carry it and I don't know of any of those places picking up Starship Toyrus.

pre-painted = punished financially.

Pre-Painted appeals to softcore gamers.

I love painting my Warhammer stuff, but I am equally delighted to get pre-painted D&D miniatures.

Some times you just don't want to invest that much time into a game.

I wanted to like pre-painted D&D figures, but I couldn't. I just
didn't like them, unfortunately.
