A buddy was playing his grey knights army against a friend that plays eldar and the grey knight player ended fielding in 1000pts only 5 termies and the rest storm troopers.  Is this all the grey knights have to offer in 1k pts?  It seems quite disturbing that GW put out an army thats so specialized they can't do well in tournament style play.  I know the models look pretty good but other than the inquisitor and the grey knights in pwr armor or termies, what do they really have?

What are some of your army lists out there?  This is only for Daemon Hunters. What do you usually field and whats your success rate?

It says in the DH codex that Grey Knights can be played as a pure force but that it is going to be a tough one to play.  And they were not lying.  The lack of options makes the army tough to play so you have to devise other ways to win.  You have to use your deployment, target priority and turn sequences to the best of your ability or you don't stand a chance.

Currently I only run games of 1500 pts or more because with 1000 pts or less you get nearly nothing.  I do prefer the quality of quantity of the army though.  Each single troop is tougher than any other single troop in the game (that I can think of) but they are also the most expensive.  My basic list consists of a couple land raiders, my grand master and as many troops as I can fit in with the rest of the points.  With the amount of AP 1 and 2 out there the terminators just get hurt so bad I always end up wasting points on them, though I have 3 squads I can run whenever necessary.

Basically if your going to run pure GK's then you need to know that diversity is not your strong point.  The TRUE backbone of the GK is the troops.  Use your troops to the best of their abilities and you can stand against any army.  Im not saying that they are the toughest out there but they CAN win if played right.

Hey RVNGRD! I tooold you I was just testing out a cheaper alternative to all Knights. and I died. Everywhere. To the last damned man. And since then, I've made an impression, correct? Running through your line was awesome. Remember that one? And what you and I did to those arrogant dark and light Eldar was especially adorable. Ha, I jest. I think I should use this place for advice now though.

Hello Vult, I play puritan Daemonhunters. Knights with small Stormtrooper fire teams. A handful of Termies, but I hate the risks of deep striking, so they pack up in a Land Raider which, to date, has simple been a target and been dubbed Victim. I only ever field an inquisitor to get assassins, deathcult or imperial, and only when i need the points. My inquisitor simply acts as a heavy weapon fire team.

Suggestions?

Well i would have to say get some more lascannons in that army list. I was just screwing around with the army builder software and in a 2000 point list i maxed out the heavy support section. I know we are supposed to talk about a 1k list but 2k is so much sweeter. The list is sound and would stomp its way across the field rather quickly.

One suggestion though would be to take out the normal land raider and get a crusader. you can have one in GK and it would be f'ing sweet. You can ALWAYS fire those hurricane bolters, you can assault from the LRC, and you count as having frag grenades when you do assault from it. all in all it pays for itself.

You should be bare bones cost for your inquisitor lord. give him 3 heavy bolter gun servitors and give him pistol, ccw, and scourging. the unit can lay alot of suppressive fire while you move up your other troops.

You have done a great job with taking Inq. Storm troopers, but keep them at 5 man and take just the GL's. don't upgrade anything else.

I have posted my lists previously and have won RTT's with it and have not placed below third with it. I am not bragging I have just played and played the list and have refined it about as far as I think possible. This is a pure GK force only.
