This is a fairly interesting situation that me and a friend were thinking about. what happens when a eldar farseer with the item that lets them make Psychic tests on 3d6 and pick the two lowest is playing against a tyranid army with the shadow in the warp (psy tests on 3d6 picking the two highest but no perils) the problem is, which one takes precidence. Or do they just have to take the test on 3d6 and take all three but ignore perils. if the latter was the case, could you be really anal and argue that because both items make you take the middle dice, you would have to count its number twice. I would hope not for everyones sake

It is an unasnwerable situation and needs to be addressed in an Eldar FAQ by GW.
This question is indeed included in the Dakka/yakfaq.

GW tends to say that when two powers like this contradict each other, you roll a D6 each turn/time used to determine which takes precedence.

It would be simpler to just have them cancel each other out and use the basic rules for psychic powers without modification.

Except I don't think that is how the rule is written. I believe it says you roll 3 and drop the highest, and roll three and drop the lowest. Assuming my memory is correct, than you *can* follow both rules, you simply have to roll 3, drop the highest, and drop the lowest. It means it is bad for the Nid player to use against Eldar.

Ummmmm, except that would have you down to just D6......leadership based tests require A Sum of 2 dice.....

Unless, of course, another more specific rule counters that. You normally roll 2 dice, but abilities have you roll 3 dice. You normally total 2 dice, but some combination of abilities have you total 1 die.

Since each rule has you roll an extra dice and drop a certain result, leaving you with two dice, why not just roll four dice, and drop both the highest and the lowest? I'd think that would be a better solution, because both powers are having an effect, rather than randomly determining which trumps which at that moment.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair. |

I'll reiterate.
The simplest and most elegant way of handling this is for the two rules to negate each other.
Why all the finnagling? You're only making it more complicated than it has to be.
