Guys

I have decided to showcase a wolflord conversion I am carrying out in a short time span, i.e. approximately 2 weeks converted + fully painted.

I have posted pics  of what I have done so far, the basic body and weapons and aim to update regularly as I carry out  more work.

All comments are welcome!!

Cheers

Yes

So this is the starting point, I'll add tails + wolf tooth necklace tonight

That chain swords more Khornate than Space Wolf! Definately I'd make this guy 13th Legion as the fluff will allow you to get away with such a monster sword!

Now thats a chain blade!

That aside its a nice looking model so far. 2 Combat weapons always look cool and I like the war cry pose. It would look great if you had him standing ontop of a dead daemon howling in rage!

Nice work.

It would require a bit more detail work in green stuff, but you might consider flipping one side of that chain sword so that the teeth appear more continuous around the blade.
I did something similar to create eviscerators for my Witch Hunters out of a bunch of spare chainswords. Sorry no pics.

On the chain-teeth, I thought the same thing about the not continous blade too ... but then, is that top bit still on the two swords, the part where the chain leaves the sword casing (get me?)? Because if it is still on both swords, then the big sword is more made of two independantly circling lengths of chain teeth, so no need to rotate one set around.

ANYWAY, nice base, and I do dig the big ol' chainsaw doom regardless

I'm not a fan of the chainsword. weapons are already too big in this game and that one makes it almost obscene. I believe the scratchbuilt hammer head could use some more detail too. that might be solvable during painting too. nice work on the greaves and wrist.

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

Thanks for the comments

Just a few clarifications

I’ve decided not to make the weapons true scale as I wanted an overpowering look, hence the large blade + hammer.

As for the blade it’s supposed to be a frost blade with a serrated edge (damn my crappy modelling skills!!) not a chain sword that is why I have removed the chain sword mechanism………oh well I tried+failed!!.

Right here is what I worked on over the last two days, what every wolf lord needs in his wardrobe, a wolf tooth necklace + wolf tails.

Huuum when you take close ups its sure does reveal the imperfections, i.e. roughness of sculpting work (note to self must get a better light for doing detail work!!)

Right over the next couple of days I will work on a cloak (after seeing the new dark angel captains, it’s a must!!)

Cheers!!

I prefer the loin cloth to the wolf pelts.

I think its much more nicely sculpted.

I understand now about the sword, but for me at least frost blades have always been long thin more elegant weapons not Cloud in FFVII honking huge broadswords. But thats just my opinion.

Do you have any plans to change it at all? At the end of the day its your model and if your happy with the effect keep it that way. Don't let people bagger you into changing something that you don't agree with!

Great minds don't always think alike!

Put the pelts in front of the loincloth. Make the loincloth wider or longer, cause right now it looks a little... underwhelming?

Guys

I decided to stick with the wolf pelts, but upgraded the middle wolf tail as it looked a little anorexic!!! I think the look is more space wolves

Right finished the cloak, basically sculpted the cloak first, then tried to hide the mess I made with some fur.

What do yah all think?

Right now all he needs is a head?

Wow man, I dig this fig!

Also, I'd consider Wolverine-style Chops for him (Then you aren't messing with that sweet necklace of teeth you already got made!)

Hello

I have a head

OH no its changing!!!!

Right So I have started with the head.

As you can see I’m going for a sort of wolf helm. I'm trying to base it on the look from the wolfen models from Racham. I know I could have gone for the traditional hairy, Viking looking SW, but fancied a change.

At the moment I have sculpted the support for the head, in the basic shape. I will be sculpting the detail on this support. It’s the first time that I’m trying something so ambitious, lets see how it turns out.

So have I made the right choice?

I think this is a righteous project, awesome!! I like the weapons and the the overal feel of the Wolf Lord. It would be nice if the helm didn't look to Wolf like as he might come across as a hybrid chaos beast! Can you make the wolf helm look "mechanical" or somehow slapped onto a standard MK7 helm?

Man down, Man down....

Right

Here is the final conversion. Ran out of time so will not be able to paint this any time soon :-(

As for the wolf helm I like the side profile but am not to pleased with the front on view, but heck it’s the first time I have tried something so complicated and you can only improve right?

I think the wolf helm looks a bit cartooney as well, taking away from the realism of the model, it makes it look like the earlier GW miniatures. I could have copped out and just taken a space marine head and modeled hair + beard which would have made for a better miniature, but I really wanted to try something new.

So all in all what do you guys think?

Unfortunately I will not have time to paint this up yet, but I’ll post pics when I start the process.

Thanks for all the comments, they were very useful.

Cheers!!

Actually I prefer the wolf helm in the first version, sorry to say it dude but it looks a lot better in my mind.

Maybe because its less ornate and looks more like a helmet. I think the eyes on the new version really don't work so well as the old version eyes.

I like what I can see of the wolf helm, but honestly the lighting is poor - since you have a window behind the model there's some serious backlighting going on.

I'd love to see some shots taken outdoors in natural light (in the shade, but outside - this gives good quality light) and much more close-up on the helm.

Scipio, I took the pictures in the evening when the lighting was bad, when I start to paint the model I will take some out door snaps which will give a better view of the conversion as a whole, still getting into how to photo minis :-)

Gundammecha, I agree with the first helm but at that time I was aiming for a wolfen (racham miniature) type look. What made me change my mind is that it would have looked more like a mutant as apposed to a helm, so I opted for a more mechanical look (cheers delephont)

No worries. If I can make a request though, please take an outdoor-lit shot of the model once it's undercoated (if you use white) so I can get a good look at your sculpt before the paint goes on.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something about that figure that reminds me of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
