Here is my report on Adepticon!

It is a huge venue, here is the ballroom the night before the first event:

First day was the Gladiator, here is a picture of my army:

I got a few shots of my friend Roberts army:

Here are a shot of James' army (painted by GD winner Scott Bowser):

My first round was against a beutifully painted Tau Army:

The game went smoothly and he was a great opponent. We had some excellent comments towards are game about the quality of painting on this beutiful board (which was more his responsibility than mine). I ended up winning this battle, and got full battle points.

My second game was againt Flavius Infernus' Eldar army, here is his deploymeny:

I won this game as well. He was a great opponent one of the best games I had over the weekend. Though we have clashed on the boards, there was not one rule dispute in our game. Goes to show that there is a disconnect between the board life and real life (not that I expected a lot of rules issues). I highly recommend playing him.

My third game was a draw against one of So Cals. Drop Pod armies. I don't have any pictures as the novelty of taking pictures wears off, and his drop pods where packed away until they actually dropped.

My fourth game was a tired one for me and a heavy loss. It was against a pathfinder heavy Eldar army.

Overall I placed 59. Not bad considering my horrible defeat in the fourth round.

Here is a picture of the overall winner:

Up next the Team Tournament!

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

This is the big one, the Team Tournament.

Here is BLOID's display:

Here is Wrecking Crew 2, that took best Xenos Appearence:

Here is the best shot I have a Casus Belli, the team that placed 4th and took best painted:

Here is a picture of the Team I was on Adeptus Orlandicus Detachment #1:

First round we played a 21 Drop Pod Team, we drew and lost against them.

Second round we played Dave Taylors Team. I had the honor of facing off against him and his awsome army, I had to snap a few shots of his pre-heresy Death Gaurd:

Third we played against the Wrecking Crew 2 (above). It was a decent game, a four foot wall of 4" tall griffon smoked rushing at us was hard to swallon, but we still played to a draw on our side, and our other side massacred them.

Fourth game was against a team called "Lictor my spores" which was a Godzilla nid list. Our game on my side turned against them halfway through and we won. The other side faired worst and had a minor loss.

Overall we tied for 6th. If we score a little higher on painting we would have scored higher. Which I can blame myself for, I was the only one that fielded minatures painted by my less than skilled hand. My team mates turn what I said on me "you know there are painting scores, right?". They even went so far as to have an Adepticon announcer tell me I was the weekest link in front of 300+ people. Fun times.

Next, my limited report of the championships!

This report is limited as my games where tiring and I took little pictures, here are a few armies I saw:

An excellently painted Angels of Absolution army:

A rather awsome Ultramarines:

Here is the Kroot Merc. Player that got best painted:

I didn't do so well and ended up placing rather low. I was totally screwed in the second round by a bad judges call, though it is my fault because I didn't read the rules carefully.

Beyound all that I had a great time, I highly recommend it to any who have the stones to go there.

See you at the tables!

Those are some great pics Mahu.  It looks like an absolute blast.  Great terrain, beautiful armies, good opponents.  If I can find a group crazy enough to get something together I will be there next time.

Pics are much appreciated!!

I reallly love this team/display stuff. I sorely wish something like this would happen in Europe too. There may be team events and lots of cool gaming and even armies, but never to an extent  of overall excitment as picutred here. We'd need a big ass, annual fest like this - not crappy GTs.

Thanks for the photos. The Overall Winning Eldar army looks very similar to an Eldar army I've seen roving around the Southeast... well, at least Fayetteville, Atlanta and Raeigh (I believe). The bases for the vehicles are identcle. The other army was a huge Vyper style army. I wonder if it's the same guy but with an updated Eldar army.

Very, very cool stuff overall. I can't miss next year's.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Gorgeous army after gorgeous army. Craft and theme. Beautiful.... and deadly. Thanks for adding to the coverage, Mahu.
I've got to get to this thing next year.

Brotherhood of Blood

So a three falcon army with some snakes on a plain won. I am beside myself with shock. Kudos to him and all those who played. Excellent paints and pictures. I made an earlier prediction that three Falcon builds will start to dominate the big tournaments and so it starts. Don't get me wrong congradulations and much respect from me but GW didn't forsee this coming. I would look forward to trying to attend Adepticon some day.

Nice report Mahu. It's the first place I have seen pictures of my army despite them being photographed a billion times that weekend. (lol)

I'm already gearing up for next year. And.....you know there are painting scores at Adepticon right? (lol)

Congrats on placing so high, your army was rock solid.

I think 3 falcons will be what every army has to match up against if it wants a chance of doing well.

We fired our entire 2000 points and charged your 2 falcons with basicly our whole army and blew what 3 weapons off and put a couple stuns on them. those things are just way awesome for survivability.

congrats again

Thanks for all the compliments.

Falcons are tricky, in my games they usually A) stay alive forever, or B) get immobilized or distroyed first glancing hit.

Yes, it was nice of my team mates to have a judge announce that I was the "weakest link" in the painting chain for my team in front of 360+ people.

It really was my Eldar Minatures that where on the low end, problem was that I rushed them to make it for the team.

Next year will be a different story from Adeptus Orlandicus Detachment #1

As an aside, the Gladiator and Champeen-chip had a rash of Eldar, (and the Avatar/Eldrad combo looked to be more prolific then the 3 falcons) and Godzilla Nids. I would even wager that there were more of those than regular space marines!

To further illustrate, my team Dok's Toolz, played against all marines last year, while this year we played against Orks (round1), witchunters/demonhunters (round2), Alpha Legion (round 3), and Godzilla nids round 4.

Only 1 MEQ army, and they actually had alot more cultist and demons then marines! Times they are a changin it seems.

Thanks for all the compliments.

Falcons are tricky, in my games they usually A) stay alive forever, or B) get immobilized or distroyed first glancing hit.
I played Chris from Da Boyz in the Gladiator and I was able to take down his 2 Falcons and Fire Prism with my semi-shooty Word Bearers.

I ended up matched with him again in the RTT, and he only brought one of them, and I had just about the same army. I stunned it now and the, but he went first, so he hid it for the last few turns so I would not stun it, and in turn #6 he  flew it out to take an objective, and I shot my whole army at it, and I could not bring it down.

Would that be Chris Courtney from Da Boyz in Rochester? If it is, good to know he's still in the hobby!

Looked to be an amazing event. I am truly awed at the scale of attendance and the quality of the painting! Some really nice work there, congrats to everyone involved! What is the unit on the top left of the pic of your friend's Eldar army?

I think your friends were being harsh. Your painting looks incomplete because of the gray, and you didn't post any pics of the Eldar army, but this seems an unfair reaction to me. Sorry that happened.

Ba-zziiing!

Yes it was.

I crushed him in the Gladiator, and he beat me in the RTT.

In the RTT we were both 2-0 going into the last round. I had about 70% shooting Word Bearers with about 30% demons. There were 5 objectives on the table, and I laid back and played a tactical game. He had an avatar, a wraithlord and 10 banshees, so I had some concerns about assaulting him, but everything else was really squishy. In the last turn he had 2 objectives, and I had 2. He flew his falcon out to claim the last objective, and he managed to pin my Furies that were in position to take one of his away, giving him the win.

Oh well, I was tired after 11 games, and I should have just charged him and gotten into assault, and cripple his scoring units.

Ellios, he was using that gorgeous Biel-tan army that he's had for what, six years now? He had also painted more of it, and Da Boyz were all fielding forces made from his Eldar models in the team tourney. It looked sweet.

I'm not surprised; Chris is an amazing painter and good general, as are all of DaBoyz. Chris doesn't play much locally, so we're occasionally unsure as to whether or not he's still on the face of the planet somewhere...

Sounded like an amazing event. I'm truly sorry I missed it. Maybe I can get in on a team next year, and actually get some models painted...!

"once you do adepticon it's all you think about all year."

Ain't that the truth.  Heck, I had a small respite for about a week.  Now it's tidying up everyhing from '07 and planning is already commencing for 2008.  As Centurian posted in the news section, anyone that wishes to volunteer to help would be greatly appreciated.  Adepticon 2008 is going to push the current staff to it's limits.

Overall, AdeptiCon has rejuvenated a lot interest in Fantasy and 40K in Toledo.  Heck, maybe we will see all of ya' in Vegas and Chicago.

Actually, I'm all for publicizing our team's lists...but the rest of the team doesn't like that idea too much.
