A while back a got a ton of Chainmail miniatures in a fire sale, and have been slowly painting them over time. Right now, I'm painting the "Drazen's Horde" boxed set (plus a few extra blister packs) with the idea of not only being able to use them for D&D, but as an "alt-GW" Mordheim warband as well, using the Orc/Goblin rules. I've always felt the GW orcs were a bit large and cartoony, especially for a gritty skirmish game (not to mention being twice the size of an Empire soldier, yet still S3). Anyways, here's the start, two goblins, armed with spears and hand weapons. I'll be posting more pics of the warband as they the get painted over the next few weeks. You can also see other Chainmail warbands I've painted here.

Great stuff. Always a big fan of the Chainmail figs...

I like the fact that they look more feral than the nose-pickers GW seems to believe are mandatory sculpts.

Ah I loved Chainmail and loved my fine Drazzie's Horde. Nothing was better than tossing down over a dozen models to your opponent's 5-6. Fine looking Gobbers.

As I stated elsewhere, these are great and characterful figs, and I really like the skintone.

You going to do a full 'army' pic? They're looking good.
Are round bases going to pose a problem in Mordheim (please say 'no')?

I will when the warband is finished (I have about four to six models left). I don't imagine it being a problem. Mordheim tends towards small one-on-one battles, or only slightly larger, with no "ranking" or support benefits from being in contact with friendly models, or attacks from the side.. If anything, it might allow for easier mobility as skirmishers. I think the square convention is a carry-over from WHFB.

Thanks. That's what I had thought, but you never know (Warlord, despite being a skirmish game, requires square bases, for example).

I haven't done an update in a while. Here's a Hobgoblin Fighter, counting as another Orc Boyz. And a War Ape, counting as a Cave Squig. See more about these guys here.

Heh. Warape. Sweet.
Seeing the various elements of the warband reminds me of one of the things I like seeing: a little figure diversity. Goblins don't have to be little orcs, and Hobgoblins don't have to be medium-sized goblins. Your paint scheme nicely emphasizes this, as opposed to an entire sea of green (or whatever).

The WarApe is the only Chainmail fig I ever picked up, and he's still waiting for paint so he can run along as a WarHound for my chaos lord I'm with syr on how nice it is to see diversity, and the orc druid is just cool in himself. - Boss Salvage
