Ok, how's this for a simple 1500 pt army for all-comers: Company Master - 115 pts Power Weapon Terminators - 245 pts 2 x LC, 1 Assault Cannon Tactical Squad - 220 pts Powerfist, Melta Gun, Lascannon Razorback w/ TL-Lascannon, Extra Armor - 95 pts Combat Squad - 125 pts Powerfist, Melta Gun Razorback w/ TL Lascannon, Extra Armor - 95 pts Combat Squad - 125 pts Powerfist, Melta Gun Razorback w/ TL Lascannon, Extra Armor - 95 pts Devastator Squad - 285 pts 2 x Plasma Cannon, 2 x Lascannon Predator Destructor - 100 pts 2 x Heavy Bolters, Autocannon, Storm Bolter Gives quite a bit of anti-tank and anti-personnel along w/ some decent assault capabilities. Let me know what you think... Ozymandias, King of Kings

couple questions is the twin-linked las-cannon razorback cheaper than the one in the sm codex i don;t think the storm bolter on the preds worth the points really, all the weapons on it are 36 inches or more, the storm bolter adds 2 shots at 24inches, so you have to get the tank close to the line to use it. this mean closer to melta guns ect. i take it the 10 man squad is getting broken down to 2 5 man, one with the las cannon the other with powerfist and melta? In the dev squad you might consider 4 missle launcher, over all cheaper and they duel roll a little better than the plasma cannon, or at least swap the plasma for rockets since the las-Cannons do add some tank hitting power. Im still a little iffy on 245 points for a termie squad, you could get a 10 man assult squad for that with a power fist. but then agian it does come in on the first turn with the assault cannon. so 6 of one half dozen of the other really, more just a taste thing. i might consider going with a chaplain over the master though re rolls always work nice and comes with the power weapon.

The base cost of the Razorback is cheaper than the C: SM version. With Extra Armor it is still cheaper by about a few points (cause it gets smoke and searchlights for free). I may switch one for a Scout squad, that might be fun. I agree that the Storm Bolter may be useless. I just had 5 points left over... Now if I want to take a Chaplain or a Libby, they are 120 points so the extra 5 points could be used to upgrade my Master to one of them. All 10 man squads are being broke into combat squads. I usually take Missile Launchers in my dev squads, but the lack of AP2 weaponry has me scared (read the thread on Nidzillas to see why) and I think I have enough anti-tank (6 lascannons, 3 melta guns, 1 assault cannon). With the new DA codex, PC are only 5 pts more than Missile launchers, good at taking out heavy infanty and MEQ's. I'll end up trying both or switching depending on who I face. I agree somewhat on the Deathwing. The new DA codex really makes you think hard about trade-offs. Again, something I need to test, but the expression on your opponents face when you teleport on the first turn is pretty priceless. At 245 points I will experiment with taking an assault squad, another Dev squad, or a Ravenwing assault squad just to see what is most effective with my style. Thanks for the help. Oz, Only things I can see is that I'd drop the EA on the Rback. They're not going to be transporting troops and if they do get stunned, so what? with 48" range, they'll still be in range the following turn. (save 45 points from EA). Second would be to drop the Lascannons in the Dev squads for PCs (save 20 points). That gives you points for another Rback so that your dev squad doesn't deploy alone. The remaining 15 points go to the Terminator squad to afford the 10 man assault squad (260 with the fist).
That gives you 1 tac squad, 2 combat squads, and a full dev squad, all in Rbacks along with 10 assault marine and a dakka pred. Pretty decent setup with anti-tank, anti-infantry, and numbers.
Just my .02.

Is the assault squad going to be more effective than a terminator squad that deepstrikes on the first turn? I don't have all that much experience with Assault squads (from 3rd ed to the 4th ed DA codex I ran a mech army with a killer command squad with Chaplain and a tactical squad with powerfist and Grand Master, assault squads didn't fit in much). That's two people singing their praise, I'll try it out both ways.
I was also thinking about dropping one of the combat squads and razorback to get some bikes to really place the Terminators where I want them. Anyone had any luck with the "doublewing" approach?

Oz, The problem with the 1 squad of terminators dropping in is that they end up being really close and a really big threat to your opponent. Nothing else really is. That means that the single unit will soak a lot of fire that first turn. Staggered approach = defeat in detail. (IMO) I think the reason that the assault squads get so many props is that they're mobile, work well with the combat squads in Rbacks, and still pack quite a punch in HtH. Sure there's only one PF, but that's really all you need. I've heard the "double wing" works well but have had no experience with it myself.

I see your point. The one game I did it was against IG and I picked a flank with no AP2 weapons other than one or two lascannons. They did take a lot of fire and I didn't lose a single one. I can see how that experience is flawed though as I won't always have a great place to ds into.
So then with your changes, I can take another razorback w/ hvy bolters, but lose 2 lascannons and an assault cannon...
If I lose the extra armor on all three, that'll give me 45 points. I can upgrade the master to a chaplain with jump pack and melta bombs for 30 points and then the upgrade to an assault squad for 15 points over the terminators. That'll give me some serious cc ability with the combat squads plus the assault squad and still have quite a bit of shooting.
