Can anyone point me toward good (and hopefully cheap) plastic car and truck kits?  And (again) what scale works best for 40k scale vehicles?  35mm?  I'm burning out on 40k a bit right now, and finishing this Eshin army I'm doing is killing any desire to make more armies anytime soon ...  So I think I might indulge my inner road warrior and make a couple post-apoc gangs + vehicles, brew me up some rules and have a go.

Thanks for any help.

I cruised Wiki a bit and it said 'heroic 28mm' of Warhammer fame roughly equates to 1:64 or S scale. Is this wildly off? I'd likely want to use the guard accesory sprue in conjunction with these vehicle kits, so given the girth of heavy stubbers and such on that sprue I'm guessing larger is better?

EDIT:  Thought some more about it, and checked how tall guard models are on weetoysoldiers.com.  Given about 3" for a human warrior, I think 1:24 is waaaay better than 1:64.  1:24 is "half-inch scale" apparently, which I guess is 1/2 scale?  The search continues.

GW's wildly exaggerated proportions mean their figures closer fit 1/48 scale. Even then it's a bit of an art, as weapons & accessories can be as large as 1/35 or even 1/20 scale. But 1/48 works well for vehicles as they are neither too large nor too small looking when some GW ganger is put aside it. Enjoy!

Ahhhh there we are! Thanks Nyarla, I was sure either you or Insaniak would know what's what

EDIT: This tank makes me feel warm and fuzzy, as does this one.  I only wanted one 'tank gang' ... but you know, Tank Girl was freaking awesome (the comic more so!) and these 1/48 tanks are sooo nice ... TankGangWar FTW???

Tamiya stuff has been used by Jfrazel to make Leman Russes. Take a searchy around modelling.

Also take a look at the Combat Zone Chronicles. Combat Zone (EM-4) figs are 28mm heroic and there's a lot of handy stuff there on using toy cars in scale etc.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I recall the leman russes, but thanks much for pointing out CZC. I have yet to dig too deeply but already see neat stuff in there. The EM-4 figs are cool too, and I'd drop the $ for some savages if a US site sold them ...

That Sturmgeschutz looks like it would fit in a Guard unit with only minor tweaks (weapons). Steel Legion, baby.

1/24 scale cars would be too large. 1/32 or 1/48 would be getting close, with 1/32 still a little too big and 1/48 a little too small. As stated, the figures exagerated scale makes it difficult to blend in different media easily. Unfortunately

So right after I posted this an unopened Sturm was up on eBay and ending in 1 hour. I was ready to snipe it for $20 total ... but was very very good and let the auction pass. Not sure I'm ready to launch into this project right now, still like to see what all is out there in the wild world of NotGeeDub.

But the CDs I bought today on eBay for $25 are totally vital, I swear!

I'd go for 1:43, it's readily available at Toys R Us, it looks right and there's a lot of selection out there.

Here are two images I took for scale comparisons.

I've looked at that 1/48 Tamiya Stug, and I have to say it seems a little undersized for 40k. (which is why I decided against buying it). I do have a few 1/48 cars and SUVs I bought cheaply at a department store, and they look perfect.
