Well, with all the small points Guard lists coming and going, I was inspired to try to clean my list out and squeeze maximum efficiency out of it. The fluff here fits the firepower: these troops come from a high-tech Hiver world which has a tech-world for a moon, but serious loyalty problems and a fear of the Inquisition that is well founded. As such, only their best trained and loyal troops set foot in Imperial commands afield -- to give their enemies no reason to come calling -- and those troops are well equipped by their tech-world thralls. Anyway, all that aside, the list is designed to be a balanced Guard list, relying on no specific gimmick. Four tanks provide most of the anti-infantry kick, hidden sentinels and infantry can shoot up enemy armor, and two leadership bubbles keep everyone well disciplined. The Grenadiers squad is foot-mobile or actually moves in their Chimera (gasp!), and, along with the sentinels and anyone who deploys by pod, can grab some objectives. Some numbers to help with your rundown: ARMOR: 2 Russ, 2 Chimera, 2 Sentinel INFANTRY: 30 Std, 10 Cmd, 8 Grenadier. SPECIAL: 5 Plasma, 4 Flamer HEAVY: 3 Las, 8 Heavy Bolter, 2 Multilaser, 2 Autocannon POINTS: 1,001 DOCTRINES: Close Order Drill, Iron Discipline, Grenadiers, Drop Troops, Special Weapons Squads HQ (68) Junior Officer and Command Squad with Iron Discipline, 2 Flamers. (57) HQ Squad: Veteran Standard Bearer. (11) TROOPS (612) Platoon Alpha (247) Junior Officer and Command Squad with Iron Discipline, 2 Flamers (57) Infantry Squad with Lascannon and Plasma Gun (95) Infantry Squad with Lascannon and Plasma Gun (95) Armored Fist Reliant (180) Infantry Squad with Lascannon and Plasma Gun (95) Chimera with Hull Heavy Bolter (85) Grenadiers Squad Ariel 8 Grenadiers with two Plasma Guns (100) Chimera with Hull Heavy Bolter (85) FAST ATTACK Sentinel with Autocannon (50) Sentinel with Autocannon (50) HEAVY SUPPORT (220) Leman Russ with Hull H/B and Sponson Heavy Bolters, Battlecannon, Extra Armor (160) Leman Russ with Hull H/B and Sponson Heavy Bolters, Battlecannon, Extra Armor (160)

Looks pretty good. I'd rather see an honorifica on the JO to boost his CMD than 2 flamers, especially if you're going with the standard. The troops HQ can go suicide counter-assault for ya.

ok why have you got grenadiers when you could drop that doctrine and just make the storm troopers elites wich will let you have another doctrine to do somthing with. oh and personly i find that heavy bolter side sponsons well actuly any side sponsons are a waste on a BS 3 tank the battle cannon is going to enough in the first place so y bother with side sponsons if half of them arnt going to hit.

for once i actually agree with franki, scary i know. but sponsons on anything but a demolisher russ, is a waste of points, basicly put the las cannon in the hull, they way it can anti tank ( half assed) if it losses it cannon. and it comes out 5 or 10 points cheaper than your set up, also skip the extra armor, its not worth the points it won;t save the tank, i would also add a heavy stubber to the chimera, 3 more shots at 36 inchs for only 10 or 12 points more. the auto cannon walkers are a bit blah really, if your going to use them keep the multi laser on them , i might suggest a hunter kill for them though since they set up in the FA deployment and get the scout move they can be very useful for hitting tank/apcs from an unexpected direction. also franki is right again just take the guys as regular stormtroopers then you could deep strike or infiltrate them, the points saved on the chimera, and some other places would put you at enough for at least a bassy if not another russ. also at 11 points or so the standard guy wonlt do much , just drop him for the points

1) Sponsons on Russes: Having the sponsons makes the Russ into an excellent dual-use platform. It can smack around heavy infantry and any vehicle but another Russ with the pie plate, or it can spatter hordes and high-toughness/low save or high-toughnes/low numbers opponents with 9 heavy bolter shots. In addition, having the sponsons allows it to suffer more 'weapon destroyed' results without defaulting to "KABOOM".
2) I agree with the chimera stubber...but I'm low on points as it is. Suggestions?
3) H/K will only make the Sentinels far more expensive than they are worth. I was considering dropping them for another infantry squad with LC/PG, though. What about that idea?
4) On Grenadiers: At this points value, there's not another doctrine I could get any use from. It would be an additional +8 pts to send the squad infiltraiting or Deepstriking, but I can get another tank with substantial weaponry and which provides an additional hard target for my opponent if I take em as Grenadiers. Two chimerae are 3-4x as hard to take out as one, not merely twice as hard.
5) On the honorifica: I almost always use it, but again, I ran out of points and those extra 25 had to get trimmed. Where would you suggest finding them...the extra armor on the russes, maybe?
6) If you've ever played with Iron Discipline + Standard Bearer re-roll, you'll never ever leave home without him again. Guardsmen with backbone is a wonderful sight, especially when they're toting most of my viable anti-tank (lascannons).
Keep the thoughts coming!

I agree with you on the sponsons andso, though im not sure about the extra armour since your vehicles have low speed, dont fight and have no troops to transport. You might consider giving it to the chimeras instead since they carry troops to objectives or to strategic locals, somewhat more valuable than the russ since infantry can take more hits. I like the sentinals, autocannons rock. They are especialy handy since most of your amy disappears for two turns in an omega mission. That said, are you actually going to deep strike the command hq? that can defeat the purpose of the banner. In fact for such a mobile army your leadership seems to depend on a unit that cant go anywhere fast without deepstriking. And the hvy weapon with chimera is kind of a waste in my mind, separate the two cause the chimera is a waste (not as much as a rhino mind) without its troops.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste |
