This is a bit Tactics, a bit News and Rumors, and a bit Modelling, but I've put it here... A while back I bought a box of Fantasy Chaos Warriors because I saw a great conversion somebody did, making them into Space Wolves. I really like the models, and I'd love to use them in a 40K army. I'm not happy with the SW rules, and I don't see them getting redone anytime soon. So, the obvious option, convert the Fantasy Chaos Warriors into Chaos Space Marines by giving them Bolters, CSM chestplates, whatever. What's a strong CSM list to build that supports some Fantasy conversions? For example, it'd be easy enough to make CSMs from Chaos Warriors, and bikes from Chaos Knights. Bloodletters are just Bloodletters... Etc. I've heard Chaos cited as one of the baddest lists in the game, but I've never really bothered to notice how it's done. The look like a list that can also produce some of the weakest armies in the game, too, if you're not careful. Finally, is there any point in investing in CSMs at this point? Are they going to get a new Codex soon? Is GW set to release a Dark Angels style trainwreck to totally ruin my remaining interest in the game? Even if the new Codex is wonderful, it's pretty pointless to build a list around a ruleset that's about to change.

Hey Nancy Negative, Chaos will still be playable and probably just as deadly. It just means that Daemon Princes will come pre-configured to take heads.

From what I hear, it's limiting the super-cheese lists (9 oblits anyone?), and shuffling around the selection slots, dreads becoming elites, oblits move to heavy etc. Shouldn't be too bad, but I do like it the way it is now with the customization aspect.

It's really going to be a wait-and-see kind of thing; the needle swung pretty dramatically between Eldar and Dark Angels (as far as potency is concerned). Chaos Fantasy stuff works great with a Lost and the Damned army, though...

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Yeah, hard to predict what they'll do... I mean, Blood Angels were pretty broken, and by the sound of it, they're even tougher now. GW's idea of balance is bizzare.
It'd be a tremendous shame if they dumbed Chaos down the way they've done with Eldar and DAs. I guess that's their new trend...

Well if they are like DA's then they won't be a train wreck, as DA are actually a very strong list now.

riiiiiight! da a very strong list now?i guess they were godlike before then, huh? DA are only strong if you play alpha missions...only than that they're just fluffy and mildly annoying to face. eldar, Zilla Nids, tau, etc, etc, etc have no problem against them DA.s

Well if they are like DA's then they won't be a train wreck, as DA are actually a very strong list now. only if you spam them with razorbacks and combat squads. pure DW is now innefective for its points with no staying power or balancing firepower, wargear and HQ options, same goes for RW and they have also become sacrificial scouts who don't ride thier bikes very well. our librarians have craptastic worthless powers that don't fit our chapter identity. dreads are so expensive points wise they are almost not worth taking, we are the first founded legion with no vet skills even though we are the most vetran? the dex is written to favor a combined arms approach heavily focused on battle company combat squads mechanized with transports with a little RW and DW tossed in for flavor.......it's not as strong a list with what else is out there right now. it also severly limits options. i know lots of chaos players and the main reason they play chaos aside from fluff is because it is so customizable and unique......and now they are making them C:SM with spikey bits :thumbs down: although i did hear that thousand sons are getting a boost for the better which is great since they are very cool yet few people play them.

The fact that EVERYONE will be playing thousand sons now annoys me. Before they were cool to add them as flavor but now it will be the standard cookie cutter crap.

Sad part is that there are a couple people that come to mind when you said that.
Depending on how the new codex works I was considering doing a mech heavy army in the style of IW. Its nice though because I will be able to pick up most of the models on the cheap from all the 14 year olds off loading their IW stuff on Ebay.

If Tzeentch sorcerers are so powerful now, animating all that IW power armor and instilling them with godlike bolters of AP3 should be easy and screw GeeDub out of a few boxes of $1k Sons - Boss Salvage
