Onward! HQ Chaplain, jump pack, combi-melta (I'm using Dante's model) - 130 TROOPS 5 man tactical squad, plasma gun, power axe, razorback, armour - 185 5 man tactical squad, plasma gun, power fist, razorback, armour - 200 HEAVY SUPPORT 10 man devastator squad, 4 plasma cannons, split into 2 squads - 265 10 man devastator squad, 4 lascannons, split into 2 squads - 305 Predator, autocannon, heavy bolters, armour - 110 ALLIES Inquisitor, tarot, bolt pistol, chainsword, leading 3 vet guards with melta guns, all in a Chimera with two heavy bolters, smoke, and armour - 190 Callidus adept - 120 Total, 1500. Tactics are pretty straightforward, shoot shoot shoot, counter assault with the Chaplain and Callidus as necessary - possibly the tactical squads, too. I'm particularly curious about whether the allied contingent is strictly legal!

I'm not super knowledgable about the allies rule, but isn't it 0-1 HQ and 0-1 Elites. If thats the case, I think you need an Inq Lord to take the Assassin.

Ozymandias, King of Kings No, he can do this, IF the codex allows you to take an Inquisitor as an HQ choice. You can legally take allies as a seperate detachment if they fulfil the required minimum two troops and an HQ requirement. The restrictions you mentioned are for taking Inquisitorial allies as part of the same detachment. He would need a second =I= guard squad to do this though. You will also have to need your opponents permission to have a two detachment army. The other way to do this is for a doubles tournament, one detachment, two armies, two players with any part of either list making up the legal whole. Eldar/Tau are a very nasty combination BTW. All you need as minimum is one troops choice from each list, everything else is open.

The DA don't like the Inquisition, but there are plenty of fluff reasons why an Inquisitor would be fighting alongside them. If you recall, Inquisitor Bastalek Grim fought alongside them during the Piscina Campaign vs. the Orks.
@Orlanth: I thought there was a special rule within the Daemonhunters codex for DH allies. I don't own that one so I don't know the specifics.

Thanks for the advice, all. Guess I'll need to scrape up 25 points to knock the Inquisitor up to a Lord. And fluffwise, like I implied in the title, it's not the Dark Angels as such - I'm really just using the rules to represent a random space marine chapter, under the assumption that marine rules will roughly follow this pattern from now on.
